  • Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah... I learned pretty quickly that attaching your character to someone else's Keeper/BG or otherwise giving that 'in' to cherry-picking stuff that affects your character? BAD IDEA.

Said as the player who played a Changeling whose fetch got both used AND killed without so much as a by-your-leave for someone else's plot. >.>

@Miss-Demeanor The thing for Neve was, I did volunteer for it (or rather, volunteered my Keeper to be used as part of the developing metaplot at the time). What I didn't know was that they decided that it was also the one Kenneth had been kidnapped by (for the third time, IIRC, since apparently Kenneth seemed to like being captured by Gentry time and again before being rescued). But, right about the time that got going was then RL kicked me in the ass for most of a year and a half.

Staff really did have it out for Leka. Tho they vehemently claimed not to, but they would go over every action she made with a microscope. A lot of players did too. "Augh she threw an Ashtray at me! Freehold law breach!"

Both she and Tori looked young despite being of age both IC and with the models they chose. They referred to friends and family by familial names (Ernst was either Uncle Bad Touch or Daddy.) Which I thought was both creepy and kinda awesome. But I like changeling showing various damage, especially when it's uncomfortable shit. Other people assume it's some pedo perversion. (Seriously, the amount of people who thought Leka was some pedo fantasy was silly)

Ernst was all about Fear, especially when it came to fearing him (Pride Vice, he never bought Fleeting Autumn 5, because it turned you into someone/thing else, he wanted people to fear him alone.) The Fear Wardens main too /was/ fear, but it was something to be used if ones Questions weren't being answered. Ernst would often set his Interviews in a creepy place, in the dark, with scary dogs lurking about, but his demeanor was usually calm, questions simple. Only when people got all in yer face uppity did he dial it up. Other people tended to start at 11 and wonder why folks got upset. Not that Ernies own tactics weren't polarizing.

You also tended to limit your eye-rolling when people didn't act intimidated, though I did give you a hard time for the whole concept. Maybe I shouldn't have, but especially after the introduction of "Truth & Lies" it became a process of turning possible avenues of drama into mush.

"Are you a Loyalist? Are you planning harm on anyone in the Freehold? Okay, done." We needed a scene for this because why? It's called "The Welcome Wagon" on The Reach, and I encourage people to skip it entirely unless they want the RP, which is a good reason to have scenes, but many Fear Wardens (HM) and many Welcome Wagoneers (TR) used it as an excuse to show off.

The show-off was a huge turn-off for many players, and became a chore that must be survived for them.

For those who don't know, the Changeling power "Truth & Lies" (or sight of truth & lies or something close to that) would allow you to detect lies at a 100% rate. There was a drawback, but it might as well have been "your nose gets clogged up" for as inconvenient as it was.

Liane/VASpider (aka Atlantis @ The Reach) overdid what was already practice designed to kill creativity, but I really blame Truth & Lies.

We've been promised "no goblin contracts" in Wild Hunt Chronicles, and it can't happen soon enough for me just to kill that damned power.

  • @darksabrz I really don't see that as any different than collaborating with another player to have prior history with one another then having said other player decide that means they can pluck whatever they want from YOUR bg to do with as they please without at least going 'hey, do you mind if I do X with this thing from your BG?'. The idea being that people write their BG's with their characters in mind. They can create whole personalities for bits from their BG's. Having someone else take that thing and play it as something else entirely is no bueno.

@Wretched Man I miss the days of being accosted by Leka at random. XD Those were some of the BEST scenes. She called Asia 'Mommy' for a brief period of time, did the same to Liane for awhile... she was a broken young woman with skewed perspectives on the world, as befitted a low Clarity Changeling. Kinda segues into the larger peeve of people not being willing to play out the downsides to low Clarity/high Wyrd.

I did one scene with Clover that was both creepy and gut-wrenching at the time. Completely caught Clover off guard but that guy could seriously RP. Rolled right with it. Tori was the first and only seriously mentally unstable character i ever played. Sure, I took some of the sexual stuff too far. But my PB wasn't /that/ young looking. I wish I'd gotten to play with Leka. The two of them at the same time. Poor Uncle Bad-Touch.

    Woah woah woah woah wooooooaaah

    No. I was Atlantis. She's Arcadia/Glasgow.

Unless she's suddenly become Atlantis 2.0, I don't really check TR anymore.

    @Cobaltasaurus
All you chicks look the same to me.

    (And now ... I die.)

But yes, I meant Arcadia, not Atlantis.
