X-Men Game

People who app Deadpool definitely get way too fucking into being Deadpool.
It sounds like a weird thing to complain about, but, we can all agree Deadpool as a character is pretty obnoxious. It works in comics, because he's doing at the expense of imaginary characters and you're just reading it for amusement.
On MU, it's being done at your expense.
Like even Deadpool apps tend to be eyeroll inducing because they feel compelled to go "HAHA LOOK AT THIS, I'D BE SUCH A GREAT DEADPOOL!" in the app writeup. It's never just a paragraph of "deadpool has healing, he can heal from bullet wounds in a matter of seconds".
It's some 4th wall breaking ministory written from 1st Person, rather than a description of the power, and with jokes/etc thrown in.

as somebody who's done them, imo with comedy chars (and tho it hasn't been brought up I think it's also valid for horror chars just for different reasons) there's a p thin line between, like, actually contributing to stuff/adding comedic elements to scenes where they're appropriate and just, idk, laughing at your own jokes/jacking yourself off in a room where literally nobody wants any part of it
and if you're just running about "being your char" ooc then, like, 99% chance yeah you're just jacking off
Like, my Ladytron app probably is pretty obnoxious but I thought it still told you what you needed to know and wasn't just me rubbing against the keyboard

I think a good approach might be an 'All-New, All-Different Year 1'.
The original five as established characters, teachers and X-Men and then bringing in later characters (from the Claremont era to today) as 'new mutants' or other former students who are now either full X-Men or living post-Xavier's School lives.

There are places you can do Year One whatever, like, I know for a fact at least one new place is gonna be opening where some of the worst offenders from UH aren't allowed (and no it's not a revenge game or anything it's p clearly been in the works for a couple months)
But there apparently hasn't been anywhere that's "yeah it's this plus this and cutoff is like this except this" for idk apparently over a decade? Like there's nowhere I can find where you can do anything close to modern comic stuff without making a giant amount of changes to fit in with year one crossover or just, like, rely on staff not paying enough attention to notice you changed nothing
So tbh it's kind of disheartening to see stuff go so super fast from "I wish there was something different" to "yeah but itd be great if it were the same tho"

Comedy characters work best when their player is focused on entertaining the rest of the game -- unfortunately most comedy characters seem to end up played by people focused on entertaining themselves.

Lol, I think it was the useful/weird thing where the board saves posts in progress even if you move around threads or start another answer.
... and apparently posts them all simultaneously if you post anywherewhere. At least I learned something.
