What Types of Games Would People Like To See?

. There will also be a general expectation that if he uses System A than all of the various bits and pieces are supported in some way via code.
I can think of numerous games through the years that have used a system for skills and left the other bits (combat, gear, etc.) open to GM narration. For instance, there are lots of games that use a skills system but don't have coded combat or gear -- don't most of the WoD games fit that mold?
As long as you set expectations clearly in your game policies, people can self-select as to whether that's a deal-breaker for them. Because you're absolutely right about one person's deal-breaker being another person's reason for playing.

@faraday WoD has an equipment system. NWoD and OWoD are slightly different, but generally it's categorized weapons (light pistol, heavy pistol, axe) and the non-combat equipment tends to be more specific (smartphone, muscle car, laptop with a rating score).
I think I've added gear to every WoD mush character I've made, but the actual gear itself was invoked maybe 10% of the time. Example: Most GMs assume everyone has a cell phone. IIRC the +text code also works even if you didn't spend resources on a cell phone.

@faraday here's an idea
BSG may have run its course, but the same methods/FS3 could be applied to an Apocalypse-Era Terminator game based out of a safe zone while rebels are fighting Skynet.
Belatedly... I’m sure that would work system-wise.
My experience with BSG though is that folks are generally more interested in the Top Gun aspects than the post-apoc guerilla aspects, so I wonder if there’d be traction for battling SkyNet in a ruined world. (Unless you subscribe to the Salvation timeline where they’ve got A10s for some inexplicable reason.)
In a similar vein though is Falling Skies, which is probably going to be my next project.

I am genuinely surprised there hasn't been an Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra style game yet.

Gone now though, I think.

TMNT would be such a cool theme to play! You could do some really, really cool things with that. I also think that the nature of the source material would lend itself to a very fun and action-packed style of play.
Now, that having been said, I will turn up anywhere WoT-related that isn't a MUD. Sorry, MUDs, but it's a no from me, dawg. Anywho I wasn't a Jordan reader when WoT MUSH/MUXs were hot, and now that I know how amazeballs WoT is, there's only MUDs. BOO!
I want to log in to both of those games so bad, folks. I won't even front; I'm singing the theme from the TMNT 1990s cartoon while I type right now. Because you know goddamn well that when the evil Shredder attacks, those turtle boys won't cut him no slack.

Double post to add an Umbrella Academy MU to the list of candidates. Doooo eeeeeettt....

Oh it was cool, don't get me wrong. But, "The world has been nuked to hell and overrun by killer robots and there are just a handful of humans left living underground and.... oh did I mention we have a functional airfield with jets and fuel and..." It was harder for me to swallow than all the time travel paradoxes
-
@Cheesegrater If it's gone, it's not going to be of much use to anyone wanting to play in that theme, alas.

Original.
Theme.
Sci Fi.
I...nnh.
I don't know.
I mean, yeah, go team original-theme, but setting it up to be playable without the books or movies or seasons that everyone can rely upon sounds much harder.
I've been excited about original-theme games before but their presentation was easy to follow, fun to read, and spot-on, not just in text but their wiki's links between sections. Original themes have overhead.
I want the runners to be passionate about their original theme game. Almost every game I've seen with passionate game-runners have overcome a lot of issues.

@gryphter I'm intrigued by your suggestions. Two questions, and neither is meant to be snarky:
- What would you see the focus of an Umbrella Academy being? A larger/extended family of fuck-ups?
- Would it be possible to have a TMNT game that did not quickly become a "furry" game? (Is this even worth wondering about?)
-
@fatefan Admittedly, I did not consider the Teenage Mutant Furry Gangbangers angle. I'm not angry at myself for this; in fact, I like myself a little more because of it. But yes, this would totally happen and be weird and retroactively ruin my childhood. Soooo... yeah.
This is why we can't have nice things.
-
@fatefan Double-post because there sure were a lot more than seven of those little souls, or whatever they were, in Father's weird little jar-thing. I suppose for MU you would have to broaden the concept to include more characters... but I really don't see why that wouldn't work. I also would probably avoid having the heroes from the show even exist in this game's canon.
-
@gryphter I think at that point you are almost at Rising Stars.
-
I am sure it's not okay but I wouldn't mind playing in Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive world.... swoons

Which would also be an interesting setup for a game. A town where a mysterious light from the heavens hits a town, and every unborn child is born with mysterious powers? Where you could basically chargen a really messed-up adult, and then periodically play flashback scenes with other folks to flesh out past relationships (because you've all known each other all your lives, being born in the same town and being known globally as having unique talents).
If you want to be PvE you leave it there and let them deal with things the staff runs (maybe even more of their own, who are using their powers for ill). If you want to be PvP, you just introduce the 'each one of you who dies, the power is distributed among the rest, making you that much stronger' element...

Man, this would actually be really cool. Even if/when your character died, you can slip right back in to being a part of the game, with none of that awkward 'I don't know anyone'/behind the curve stuff. XP is fun and all and can still be used for skills/stats, but the general 'power level' stays the same across the board.

@fatefan Yiff me if I know.

I think I am most attracted to games these days with staff that have and implement good boundaries as far as community behavior expectations, are not intimidated to remove problem players regardless of talent, or to say no to things that create theme drift away from what they the staff feel most energized and creative running/providing for. Including when people decide to close/wrap a game.
With that foundation I as a player feel more comfortable taking risks and exploring the theme/play available, rather than just keeping my head down.
I like to see experiments. I'm rarely disappointed even if they close because an energized and happy staff makes things enjoyable for me, usually, if that energy is a good fit.
I like all kinds of genres and I often enjoy games based on things I am meh about the original content (love battlestar games, but I am ugh about the "new" tv show for whatever reason, same thing with Buffy, those games were super fun but I actively loathe the TV show!). I find gamerunner enthusiasm to be by far the biggest predictor of my own happiness as a player on a game.
So I am totally in the camp of build what YOU are most excited for, not what you think will fill a "need" but you're not totally into it.
