But Wait, There's More!

"Oh-ho, a post from ES! She probably actually got off her ass to do that hand-over she posted about before, the lazy bum." (In my head, you all sound like that, fyi. :) )

Here's the deal, yo. In my lazy bum dragging of feet to get all this taken care of, only some of which was a friend passing hitting me much harder than expected, I've come to realize that I don't wanna. That is to say, the thought of taking over the board, even with @Sunny's inestimable assistance, fills me with a deep and abiding feeling of 'ugh'. Maybe a slapdash of 'sigh' and a soupcon of 'but but but' as well. All told, it's a hesitation that I should have recognized much sooner. We've all been there, that lingering instead of leaving a game when the fun was over. Well, most of us anyway.

As this is to say, that @Glitch (who still technically owns the board, and has been super patient with me) and I have discussed what's to be done next. Y'all are still using it, so we're not heavily in favor (only somewhat, I promise!) of just closing the doors forever and walking away. We've decided instead to hand it over to someone else to own/administrate/mod as he sees fit.

    That person is @Arkandel.

Our primary criteria for this wasn't popularity (sorry dude!) since we're all MUshers or ex-MUshers. Nothing and nobody we chose would be 100% liked, that's not how any of us roll. :) We picked him because we both trust that he's not going to be an asshole who misuses or abuses the personal emails and administrative rights that come with something that's been alive for.... what. A few years now? That's it, guys. That's all we asked of him; don't take advantage of the users' personal info as it is available to you.

He and @Glitch are working on the transfer. We're not going to be all up ins once it's done, and while he says he likes the board as it is right now (he can speak for himself, boy howdy), there's inevitably going to be changes in time. That's not our worry, that's just the nature of the beast. Get over it. <3

    Your questions may begin.... now.

    ES

  • No questions, just a virtual hug in spirit for the passing of your friend, and lots o' empathy. Do what you need to do for you, since in the end, that is the important bit.

Hey all. Yeah, thanks @EmmahSue for the glowing review!

So, I am not keen on making any changes at all. As far as I'm concerned if you notice any differences in how things are ran around here tomorrow compared to yesterday I'll have fucked up. MSB will always be about having a censorship-free forum where people can speak their minds freely about the hobby.

... In fact please don't make me have to do anything. I'd much rather have this place run on autopilot, so unless things get way out of hand I can just quietly pay the bills and keep posting shit when I'm idle at work. Let's keep it that way. :)

Oh, and for the record - as ES and @Glitch already know - this place is theirs any time they decide they want it back.

OK, if you insist. My question is…

WTF is this and why do I have a picture of it?:
    WTF!?

    @WTFE

Well, when a mommy sphere and a daddy tube love each other very much, sometimes they invite a motor to the party and then the fun really gets started. And then the stork brought you!!

  • Props to @Glitch and @EmmahSue for their work on this, and MAJOR props to @Arkandel for stepping up to take it. There were a few possibilities that filled me with dread. @Arkandel was not among them.

I have no idea what that thing @WTFE posted is.

I still want to know if the Muxify will make the transfer.

And to say that I am not filled with the dread of Ark running the board as I might have a few years ago.

This probably says more about me than Ark.

  • Admin

@Thenomain I'll look at it over the weekend. This is all out of the blue for me, as I think ES first spoke to me about it on... I want to say Tuesday? Therefore there's no real plan for the technical side of this transition.

I'll see if my existing Linode hosting would work for MSB first, possibly with a RAM upgrade, and figure it out accordingly. Barring unexpected technical issues though I don't see why Muxify wouldn't make the transfer.

I just don't know what it all entails yet since I've got zero experience with nodebb and/or redis. I figure that's about to change.

Everything @Thenomain and @Arkandel just said is gibberish to me! rock hard make keys go fast

    ES

  • @WTFE It's a sphere gap voltmeter. And zappy plasma magic happens between the big metal doorknobs. Who wouldn't want a picture of that?!

  • @Collective OK, that's pretty awesome. Now I sorta want one. Not the picture, but the thingie.

I think that device was something designed to provide some sort of electrical therapy for ...hands? I seem to remember something like it, and the remote sort of makes me think of intensity levels.

  • @Rook I just sort of have to look at it and sigh and remind myself that I have cats and that means I can't have nice things.

    Especially nice electrical zappy things.

The fluffball is already so zappy in the winter any time she crosses the carpeting that we named her Tesla.

    Something might actually explode.

Close. The gap voltmeter we make looks very similar. (Indeed I think externally they're the same housing.) But this specific one isn't for measuring voltages. It's for actually discharging. It's for testing insulation and grounded casings and the like.

The remote is there to move the balls closer or farther apart. You want to not be touching it when it's firing because 220kV@some-obscene-amperage is not fun to be touching.

  • Darn, and here I was wanting the responsibility and power of the board so I could...

...well shit. How does one abuse their power on a small, niche internet bbs again?

    Ask Rasheem.

  • @Arkandel Just keep backing up the database so we don't chance losing yet another site.

    @TNP

I do have an older version of Wora, I just can’t be arsed to set it up in a readable manner.

    Oh, god, this asshole.
