Welcome to Night Vale OTT/Short MUSH?
-
Hullo!
I'm thinking of maybe doing a short Welcome to Night Vale-inspired mini-mush or OTT over the summer while my class load is now (thankfully) low. I can't say that it'll last too much beyond summer time, but maybe!
Is anyone interested?

oh my gooooooooooooooooood
-
Yep.
-
@Cobaltasaurus Do it.
-
Please do! Perhaps it could start a revolution!
I love Nightvale's.. whacky horrorm I guess you could call it.
I mean everything is as a terrifying as FNAF 4, in NightVale.. but... man... -
Glow Cloud...

I have no idea what Nightvale is. Should I?
-
@Tempest Me neither. What is this about?
-
http://commonplacebooks.com/ perhaps? Looks like a WoD-style podcast about a 'radio show' from a small town with supernatural stuff going on in it.
-
Night Vale, two words.
About as WoD-like as Buffy.
Edit: I take that back. Far less so. No dogs are allowed in the dog park.

It's magical realism, though thus far I've never seen any review or commentary about it where the writer uses the term.
-
I'd say it's magical realism with a heavy splash of surrealism, with those dream-like transitions, absurd juxtapositions, and non-sequiturs. BUT HELLS YEAH

I looked this one up and I have to say that it's kind of a dumb term.
Also, a splash of surrealism? Do not look too deeply into the dog park.
Beware of Librarians.

My eternal shame aside:
Here are some things I am interested in knowing from the folks who want to play:
- Do you want to play with stats? (e.g. Roll things out in ST'd scenes.)
- Do you guys want to set up a particular day of the week for 'official scenes', but have free RP amongst yourselves outside of that?
- Do we want to be in -Night Vale-, or another city? (Hey! We could even be in Svitz or Luftnarp!)
- Um, anything you feel you need to tell me?
- Careful, the sheriff's secret police are listening.
-
The one question out of those I have strong feelings about would be definitely setting it in Night Vale proper because w/e I don't care about any of those ~other~ cities.
-
Hm, I feel like setting it actually in Night Vale kind of limits the theme -- I've also seen other Night Vale-centric RPs become contests to just mimic the style of the podcast, which seems like it would get stale after a while. But I'd still play there.

@Wizz
Set it in a companion city and flit back and forth for different groups to operate out of, maybe? You still get Night Vale and a diverse option without losing anything in the bargain. -
If I may, I'd suggest using Fate's city creation system. Let's you and your players take an active hand in it's development.

The term itself?
The below is not really relevant unless you, like me, get all happy about granular taxonomies. I do rabbit on.
The idea, eh. Surrealism addresses issues about cognition, how the subconscious informs ones perceptions, blurred lines between dream and reality, sanity and madness, that sort of thing. Magical realism addresses how culture informs our perceptions about what is uncanny and what is mundane.
Welcome to Night Vale is a work of surrealism if you consider yourself, the listener, to be the primary character -- are you dreaming this radio broadcast, WTF? But few of the other characters (so far as I know, I've not listened to every episode) appear to find themselves to be living in a distorted reality or to find any of the weird stuff that happens to be outside of the realms of the canny and cult. There's only Carlos, and he doesn't take it that hard either.
