those of us who help with hosting begin setting up Ares installs for others.

Random side note. The standard server setup script installs a single redis database instance as a global system service. If you're going to be running multiple ares installs on a single server with different usernames, each user will need their own redis instance. This article may help.

This particular server is on Debian, which was part of the tinkering involved, but noted! πŸ™‚

By and far it wasn't too bad of an install/setup. Web portal actually went smoother than my last trial earlier this year when I briefly had a droplet to mess around with. πŸ˜„

I'm still writing up my space opera game's background, but I really, really want to get back to this so hard right now.

Not because XCOM2 is in my blood either.

@ganymede Space Opera sounds awesome. I've recently started up one of my old projects again myself.

            So not Mass Effect.

@thenomain Mass Effect died thanks to Andromeda. Thanks EA.

That's like saying Indiana Jones died thanks to Crystal Skull. I don't think it did. Jar-Jar didn't kill the Star Wars film franchise, tho you'd think that Lucas wanted that outcome by it.

I think that if anything killed interest in Mass Effect, it was the ending of ME3.

Which turned into poor sales for Andromeda... which was only made worse by the bugs and so forth. It started with ME3's ending, and the final nail in the coffin was Andromeda's terribad release.

Mass Effect is cool and all (as Jar Jar is if you're a little kid) but could we maybe take that tangent over to the Video Games thread?

No. I can't figure out how to twist FS3 to simulate its combat, and it seems a lot easier for me to suggest tweaking some of BSG:U's code to represent giant robots and shit.

Plus, I like the idea of writing my own fiction for it.

And I intend to coerce Faraday into helping me.

                      So.

@ganymede Y'know Ares also has Fate, Cortex and FFG/Genesys, so... you're not stuck with FS3. (Unless you want fully-automated combat, in which case you are.)

But I dig your giant robots idea so I'm happy either way.

I want a lot of things, but this is the non-pareil that I'm trying to snag.
