Things Coded in Firan

Hey, I'm making this thread in mildly constructed because it's a Firan thread that isn't about Firan being weird for once.

I'm pretty sure actual documented official Firan information doesn't exist anymore? So what I'm trying to do now is crowdsource a list of random functional code shit that existed in Firan, as I'm trying to collect a bit of data for my current project.

Like, for example, I know for sure you could use your cooking skills to make functional food that people could actually eat and stuff.

So, just, like, dump everything you can remember, really. Even if you aren't 100% sure, any information is helpful. Can be skills, weird mini game type things, whatever. If it was coded and you could do functional things with it, I want to know about it.

I mostly remember the weird coded bits.

• If you drank too much, you could get teleported to a random room on the grid.

• ritual/eesha <target> - Sex code

• ritual/threesha <target> <target> - Joke code for a threesome that didn't actually do anything except return some sort of joke response.

• amiavirgin - Told you if your character was a virgin or not

• amiavirgin/ooc - Joke code that would respond with some joke answer that implied that, yes, you are a sad, pathetic, virgin loser. Lol.

• Food, EP (energy points), and ERP (energy reserve points).

• Being able to poison said food.

• Stealthing into rooms and hiding once in them.

• Calling witnesses.

• Coded hair growth and haircuts.

• Coded hygiene and bathing.

• The rooftop code was pretty awesome.

I wanna say there was a coded poker game, and there was the simple Risk style game that was coded. Clan Wars I think it was called.

The prostitute in question being either dead-through-old-age, exiled, sacrificed, a level (or tier, or whatever it was) IV that was made simply to fuq), or now a general.

I forgot about the character tiers. I rather liked that possibilities opened up by that design element, even if the implementation left a lot to be desired.

A lot of the more generally useful stuff from Firan is in Arx, I believe. I'm having trouble thinking of anything that Firan may have pioneered that hasn't been adapted by others over time.

There was a LOT more coded in Firan than in Arx. I seem to remember some swimming code existing and there was a good chance of drowning even with some points in it, so everyone avoided the river rooms. There was also the search code which would reveal hidden characters, items, and exits to secret rooms. Picking locks was possible.

Firan was way more towards an RPI than Arx is.

@Ominous Oh sure, Firan was basically code with players around it rather than the other way around.

So it'd depend on what exactly you wanted to do. I can't imagine the amount of maintenance that sheer amount of code would have needed.

Yeah honestly Arx feels like it's just barely got the cool code that was in Firan. That's why I'm asking about Firan, since, like, the stuff that Arx has that I would find conceptually useful isn't even finished (like the domain system).

edit: Speaking of, can anyone explain how, conceptually, domain systems are supposed to work in these games?

"Domain system" is so vague a term as to be useless without context.

Firan did not have a domain system or anything similar.

Didn't it have something to do with the various kingdoms and territory? I can't remember if that was implemented or just talked about.

@Tinuviel Not gonna lie, I'm barely sure what I'm asking, I just know, vaguely, that Firan had a system for like, the various house domains. I don't really have much context I can add, since I mostly am like, "what was it", if that makes sense?

@HelloProject Given how long it has been since Firan, you're going to have a time trying to find anyone that remembers anything beyond the words 'domain system'. Presumably, it was about resources in various territories and income and those sorts of things.

People would get money and resources from the plots of land that they owned, but that was it. I don't think there was ever a plan to code military units and such.

Oh, there was D-space. I think that was what it was called. The entirety of the the continent used to be on the grid, including all of the cities and the countryside in between, from what I was told. Then they turned that off and kept only the main city on grid. Though, you could access other cities with permission, as they kept those gridded rooms around.

@HelloProject To answer your question in the most... generalised way possible: A domain system is any feature set that manipulates territory to acquire resources. Be that actual mining and the like, or influence, blood/essence/whatever. How you'd go about making it would depend on what exactly you want the territory to look like, who you'd want to have access to it, and what resources are worth the investment in aquiring.
