My body is ready. I am going to assume this will go live whenever the Fallout 76 beta is to torment me.
-
@tragedyjones Hmm, not sure about that. But damn if we aren't trying.

Well then you could have your survival sim in one window and RPG in the other. Win-win!
-
@thenomain I agree with this awesome.
-
GRID UPDATE: Initial Grid Dig (without extra, personal rooms) is complete.
Aurora Settlement - 20 Rooms
Montreal - 61 Rooms
Northern Wastes - 53 Rooms
Vault 1A - 15 RoomsEDIT: Music Pick
"This Land Is My Land" American OR Canadian Version. Both work horribly well.
-
@rizbunz There's a Canadian version of "This Land is my Land"? This feels wrong.
-
@rucket There are lots of versions, Woody Guthrie wrote the Scottish one too. The Canadian one was written in 1955.

So you're going for the Bethesda version of a Vault where about maybe 15 people live there?
-
@thenomain Never played Fallout Shelter? You can fit so many more people in a room!
-
@thenomain There's a thing about Vault 1A...you'll have to wait and see why it be so small!
-
@rucket Tis indeed!

It’s a vault...FOR ANTS!
It doesn’t bother me. I mean, Vault City and Las Vegas’s vault we’re represented as small but clearly had quite a large population. Hell, Vault 13 wasn’t very many rooms itself.
I am now imagining a fight between Vault Tec and the Canadians over the pronunciation of Vault 1Z.
-
@thenomain I giggled more than I should have at this.
-
When do you open for beta?
-
Belatedly, for music... you might want to look at Stompin' Tom Connors for the Anglo-Canadian side of things (though it might be out of time period, started making music in the 60s) or Paul Anka. For the Francos... well, there's a million different small folk music artists in French Canadian culture. I'm not an expert on it at all, particularly in that time period, but for a "name soup" check out https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/pop-music-in-quebec-and-french-canada-emc/
The cool thing about Montreal is that prior to the separatist thing in the 70s and 80s, the city was very heavily loyalist Anglophone and made an interesting mix of people. Many Anglos (regardless of actual ethnic origin) were very British-Canadian in orientation, (I remember my grandmother using all manner of British terms in her day to day conversation, loyalty to the Queen and Commonwealth etc...). Quebec's population in the 50s was 15% Anglophone, but it was much higher in Montreal itself, and Anglos controlled a lot of the business and politics of the city. Given the divergence in timeline between real life and Fallout, you guys might want to stick with it, go with what happened historically or diverge into a what if.
I might poke my head in here, being a native Montrealer and a big Fallout fan. This looks super interesting!

@patty Thanks for all your suggestions! When looking up music, I did do a bit of historical digging, but some things I found just didn't match the flavor I was going for. I have been asking for assistance in things that are Montreal at heart, just to try and give it a proper home given the setting.
I'm all ears for any further suggestions you may have, though I think we have to take some things with a grain of salt. Mostly due to the fact that none of us (Staff I mean) are actually from the area we're using, and we'd still keep it a 'What If' type universe, as Fallout is want to do.
-
@secretfire Not sure just yet. We're working out the system currently, and getting a grip on finalizing what we want our code to do for players. It'll be tested by Staff first, and once we get closer to an actual opening date, I'll be sure to let everyone know. The wiki will also have information set up on it, but it's very bare bones at the moment.
It was an old body with new skin, so still fixing that up, too!
