No Man's Sky Thread

First topic I think I've ever started here.
No Man's Sky: for those who picked it up, thoughts? I'm concerned that I'm going to get bored with this open-world, fucking amazing sci-fi game. I'm concerned because this game is so fucking incredibly awesome that I can't even communicate my thoughts on it well.
Resource gathering. Tech building. Wildlife hunting. Space combat. Warp jumping through an infinite universe.
There's so much potential with add-ons here too.
Thoughts?

I'm kind of slowly working my way through the early stages of exploring, keeping the objectives they throw out there in mind. I haven't had the chance to play it much since my pre-order arrived on Thursday and I worked long days Thursday through Saturday, but I've found it to be pretty interesting so far. I like that they're talking about doing regular updates and staying away from paid DLC add-ons.
-
I adore it. I got it on pre-order for the PS4, and have been playing nigh constantly since then. Sadly, my souped-up ship, multitool, and backpack were all lost when I tried to play around with save game data and accidentally deleted it. So I've started again. Still love it.
I've seen giant flying snake things, bright blue rays in a red sea, eye-covered elder things, and strange worlds a-plenty. It's pretty much endlessly entertaining. The only bad thing is that it's easy to get into a sort of Zen state of exploration, and realize that you've somehow spent six hours on it.

I know, right? There's always some goddamned unknown place within 2.5 minutes of the last goddamned unknown place I searched.
My favorite part is getting all the GOOOOOOOLD, and then selling that shit.
-
@Ganymede Mountains of gold are almost my favorite things, eclipsed only by special resource worlds, where you run through, snatching up Albumen Pearls or Vortex Cubes, while an ever-growing Sentinel army tries to murder you.
(Although, once you get your multi-tool upgraded, my name for Sentinels is "mobile Titanium deposits".)

I'm still trying to figure out reliable ways to get Aluminum and Iridium, so the going is slow in making my Boltcaster a thing of pure evil. Figured out that the mining beam is shit, even when upgraded, against Sentinels, so --

I've most often found Iridium in asteroids. Sometimes you get lucky and find a planet that has ground-level deposits, but it seems like it's more likely to be found in space. Aluminum, I've found most often on toxic planets for some reason. I don't know if that's actually a trend, or just my experience, though.

Something something, pre-order, something, something Hyper Drive, something something, new game.
-
@Insomnia I'm afraid I don't understand this reply?
-
There's a bug with Pre-orders of PS4 which let's you skip the Hyper Drive tutorial, and the pre-order ship is supposed to have a Hyper Drive, but it doesn't, but the game thinks you have it, so it doesn't let you go back and do the tutorial, and you can't learn how to make it without the tutorial... so you get stuck out in the middle of space with no Hyper Drive and have to start over again.

Oh, yes. I've heard about that, although never ran into it myself.

I died twice and lost my ship on my first planet. >.>

The genders on the alien creatures though.
From now on, if anyone ever asks what gender I am, I'm going to answer Indisputable. Or maybe exotic.
-
Asymmetric!
-
Vectorized is my favorite. That, and when an alien with massive teeth and claws pops up, with its diet reading "plants".
Yeah, right.

Has anyone tried being a trader or pirate yet? Right now the survival explorer aspect of the game does not seem all that appealing to me after a couple of days doing it.
I remember reading that it should be almost entirely possible to play the game without doing planetfall.

This seems very possible given the plethora of asteroids with fuel in them.

I've been trying to decide whether this is worth spending my entire annual budget for video games on.
So far, one thing I like is that it's impossible for there to be spoilers, as there's no plot whatsoever.
Does anyone have a "If you love [ThisGame], you'll love No Man's Sky," comparison?

If you loved Star Control 2's free-form space exploration, you'll love No Man's Sky.
If you loved Minecraft's sandbox-y feel, you'll love No Man's Sky.
If you loved shooting down Freelancer's space combat, you'll love No Man's Sky.
If you love a game that you can waste hours on because you love how it looks, you'll love No Man's Sky.
If you love a game that you literally can never, ever, ever finish, you'll love No Man's Sky.

I have done some trading! Mostly when I had a specific goal (like, I just need 3Mil to be able to buy a better ship, etc.), but doing it full time is very possible, especially if you stake out a system or two with lucrative goods. You have two major vectors for trade: space stations and planetary trading posts. Both of these have Galactic Market kiosks that have a certain selection of goods. However, both of these also have ship travel, which is where trading is better - each NPC in their ship has certain random goods that they will buy and sell, at different prices. Prices that are starred are especially good deals when they're in your favor (and exceptionally bad deals when they're not). Given patience and a good memory for prices, it's possible to earn a tidy bit. You will earn MORE if you're supplementing that with goods you collect on your own, though.
I have not done pirating, although I have fought off pirates more than once (and died more than once). There is a bounty system, too, if you want to space fight but don't want to do so on "innocent" targets. much like everything else, though, bounties are random, so it's not possible to set out after a bounty, you just have to take them as they come.
