As I slowly eat the rice of my salted rice... What are your "comfort" foods? What do you eat when you're feeling nauseated, have the runs, are sad, or otherwise not at optimal level?

When I'm feeling nauseated: I like saltines and juice, or salt riced with maybe a tiny bit of bland chicken.

When I'm feeling cold/flu-like symptoms: I like chicken soup-- noodle, or matzah ball soup, or chicken & rice. Best with a grilled cheese sandwich.

When I'm sad and Eating My Feelings: I like sweets-- ice cream or cake or the like.

Mac and cheese. Because everything in the world feels better with mac and cheese for some reason.

        Oh fucking well.

Toast. With cinnamon sugar. And Arizona green tea.

          Chicken noodle soup.

          French fries.

          Sweet potatoes.

          Chicken salad.

          Egg drop soup.

Saying the quiet parts out loud since 1996.

...also i misread that as "eggnog soup" at first and was like "WHAT".... now i have to google and find out if eggnog soup is a thing

Tostino's Pizza Rolls (tm). I dunno why but when I am super down I will bake a few and just nibble at the outside of them while the lavafest inside of them burns my tongue and I forget what upset me in the first place.

But my mother tells me that's weird.

              What does she know?

I didn't ask for this, it sort of fell on me.

                @layla Mmm, totino's...

Also the only recipe I have found of "eggnog soup" is just eggnog with lemon and orange rinds and some sherry and meringue floating on top.

@auspice Never tried french fries for comfort. I should.

My comfort food is always salad. I'm super weird. The crunch of veggies and the bite of balsamic make things better.

Mashed potatoes are my ultimate comfort food.
                      Mac 'n cheese.
                      Baked curly fries.

Carbs. Just give me carbs when I am at my lowest.

@bobotron Man, I love crunchy rabbit food. So I don't think it's weird. Carrots are my jam.

I have not tried a lot of the deep fried food fads. This one is legit you say? Might have to throw in my hat and give it a go.

@layla A supermarket brand suggested it a decade ago, tried it. Never looked back. Comes out so crunchy on the outside, lavalicious on the inside. Nip a corner if you want it to cool. 😄

Either deep fryer works, or I toss some oil in enough for one side and flip 'em. fry until golden brown, usually doesnt take long.

Kimchi soft tofu soup. I keep all the ingredients on hand mostly and I have it once a week sometimes more or make at the kids’ request.

                                    Fresh baked crusty bread

                                    Gummy coke bottles

                                    Pho

Kale chips with lots of vegan cheese powder and tumeric on them.

                                    Chocolate chip cookie dough.

I used to love Doritos, my anger eating item of choice, along with this local popcorn that has dehydrated crunchy jalapeño slices mixed into it but lately my tastes have changed and so I’m all about the soondubu.

@mietze Man your comfort food is so much healthier than mine. XD I'm like: "I'm stressed out GIVE ME A MILKSHAKE OR I WILL CRY", and you're like: "Man I'm upset, give me some kale chip". XD

That being said, I do like-- when I feel like I've been "over greased" like to get just simple rice and chicken, or salads with ZUICHINI AND YELLOW SQUASH.

@cobaltasaurus salt is my weapon of choice! The kimchi soup depending is pretty healthy albeit chock full of salty fermenty goodness, but pho broth is extremely lovely deceptively fatty and salty as hell. :). Homemade broth of any sort are my kids’ go to comfort food that’s not junk food so they hang out like vultures when I’m making pho stock or any other kind and I have to fight them off enough so there’s enough for dinner dinner.

Also the good fake cheesy kale chips are full of fat and nuts! The vegan ones tend to be the most unhealthy.

Do you grate the zucchini/yellows raw? Not a fan of them cooked but I like them as crudités, don’t know why it never occurred to me to put them in a salad!

@mietze I love them both cooked and raw. Raw in salad I do relatively big-ish chunks (sliced up and then quartered), I will fry up with butter slices or quarters for eating or will cook them down with garlic and other flavor'ing items for stir fries. They're really, really good in stuff bell peppers 😄
