UPDATE: I got the job! They verbally offered it to me and I accepted, I get my paperwork to sign tomorrow. Apparently this is the fastest they've ever went from 'application through interview to hiring' that the hiring people can ever recall. I move positions on August 21st.

RE: Critters!
This is the (freshly washed) 17 year old fat cat, Biff. He was my fiance's when we got together 16 years ago.
And these are Peanut (chihuahua, 13 years old) and JB (jack russell/dachshund mix, 8 years old).

@dontpanda
Super congratulations! That's awesome.On the note of marriage, finally finding the perfect ring, and going to surprise my partner of 15 years and, finally get a ring and actually ask him to get married, when our anniversary comes up next month. Now that we can legally do it and all. Not like 15 years come July isn't already hitched anyway.

[Interest Check] Original vampire-based supernatural MU*
I stay bored at work. So I theorycraft.
I wonder what the interest would be in an original supernatural MU*, not pulling from WoD or Dresden or anything like that. I had been theorycrafting some things just because, well, boredom but... I think I like what I ended up pondering on, and wondering if there might be a market for it.My thoughts are as follows:
- Original theme, focusing on a vampire society originating from, and based on Roman hierarchy. Inspiration drawn heavily from the Spartacus TV show with a heavy dose of the theatrical and mythological
- Modern world set in a big city like NYC, with vampire society being very Roman-esque with shades of the Nobility and their 'decadence unto the end' from Vampire Hunter D, divided into houses/families/lines of descent (standard Roman stuff, but also cribbing from the Houses in GoT), with some set up as default antagonist groups
- Other supernaturals exist (standards like witches and weres, but also weirder shit like Crow-analogues and true mythological creatures that exist in the modern world, ala Percy Jackson), but are on the periphery -- and might be at war with the vampires, or in loose alliances (think The Originals and how New Orleans is set up), or just saying 'Get the fuck offa my lawn, or Imma stab you with my minotaur horns'.
- A game skewing more Blade/Underworld/Buffy, with a more high action feel in addition to the societal stuff that is a common trope of the 'aristocratic vampire' trope.
- A game starting out more heavily CvE but moving towards a heavy CvC (like, say, along the lines of Robert's Rebellion from GoT/ASoIaF)
- Less 'tabletop systems on a MUSH' and more 'automated systems for many things, particularly combat code with lots of options for PCs, as well as methods for general non-combat +rolls that function as one would expect from TT'. If you've played at a Transformers game, that type of conflict resolution for fights would be what I would be aiming for/setting up.
- Cribbing and stealing liberally from the things that work (like power arrangements from WoD to convert into cool stuff, or the visuals of Grimm's Wesen for Bygones, for example)
- Allowances for player-based fluffing of things (like, an ability that controls shadows to attack, would be 'this is a Level 4 weapon' and give examples of fluff, such as shadow-forged weapons, tentacles, or stabbing someone in their shadow to deal damage to their body)
- Drawing heavily on Roman and Greek mythological tropes for the backstory and history of vampires (cursed by the gods Diana and Apollo in particular).
- Drawing on cool stuff from other sources to give neat stuff for people to do, interact with and to be inspiration.
I will probably expand on some of this just because, well, I like to write stuff up. But I think it's a sound premise and a good alternate to the standard WoD (which is what I think tripped me up with the OWoD game, using an unfamiliar system with something hyper-familiar to everyone who would be interested in it).

RE: Good Things
I got some awesome recognition at work. I like doing billing stuff (I work CS, and we get billing overflow calls). In lieu of a cash applications position coming open, they put me on the 'primary Financial Services team' in our CS department, because they know I like it and I'm good at it.
It's nice to be recognized for things I'm good at (even the little stuff like this) by my bosses.
Also cheated and looked at possible rings for my partner and I (this July is the 14 year anniversary, I think it's sentimental mostly but I really want to do it, even if we can't legally get married here in Kentucky)..

Searching?
Is it just me, or does searching on this forum seem to be supremely difficult? It doesn't seem to care about 'best match' and just matches the first word in the list, whether you use normal enclosed search methods like quotation marks around the term or not. Is this something we could fix/adjust?

RE: Critters!
I need some good feelings right now. Our 18 year old cat just passed away. At least he was being held in our arms when he passed.
Goodbye, Biffers. You were such a good cat. I'll miss you so much. Go be with you brother Zeke, sister Callie Mae and adopted brother Porkchop.

Bobotron's Playlist (because why not)
Might as well join the bandwagon; out of all the people that were on WORA, I think there were only four or five I'd actually RPed with on the MU*s I'd been on when it was up. A lot of these are from way back in the day when MU was my only real social outlet, and my playing has dropped off considerably since like, 2007. Color me curious how you're going to integrate Riders? Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight wasn't terrible, and could be used as a jumping off point.

RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?
@Ominous said in What Types of Games Would People Like To See?:
After playing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, I want a game of wuxia-ish monster hunters who go around banishing ghosts and demons and killing monsters and shit and absorbing their powers to become even more badass at the risk of corruption and going mad. This idea is not thought out at all, but it sounded really fun in my head.
UHHHH AGGGGGH!!!
- NEW SHARD: Teps Oceus - Chain lightning!*
It would be kindof amazing, the PCs being Shardbinders working with/for various organizations, and such.

And we'll get some info on the state of the Sabbat in the PG.

RE: Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition (VtM 5E)
@Ghost
Ravnos were reduced to a couple hundred, and it's been 14 years since. So we'll see what they do.Most of us in the community are expecting Chimerstry as a whole Discipline to be gone, replaced by a couple of Amalgams. It's all they need, anyway. One for general illusions, one for fighty illusions. None of this 'I can make a static illusion at level 1!' that no Ravnos ever sits at anyway.

RE: Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition (VtM 5E)
Info on projects from Matthew Dawkins (thanks to him for the AMA on the WoD5 Discord).
From the Player's Guide...
- The PG will have Amalgams and alternate powers for Disciplines. Apparently 'Warlocks of all stripes will have some new toys to play with' but without context (hopefully more Rituals and BS powers).
- The Hecata section will talk about the Giovanni as they are linked to the Hecata; the Hecata section will not talk about the non-Hecata Giovanni. The non-Hecata Giovanni will be more covered in Cults of the Blood Gods.
- Ravnos and Tzimisce will be in the PG.
On the Chicago Folios...
- They will contain some mechanics, new Loresheets and Blood Sorcery Rituals.

RE: Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition (VtM 5E)
@Rinel
You can just about recreate any Path or even chunks of multiple paths into your Humanity based on how V5 does it. You have Tenets (the global morality) which is decided by the ST and the group (so you could have a Humanist set of Tenets wit hthings like Don't kill except in self defense), then individual PCs have Convictions, which are personal morals that they use to keep the Beast away. IT's really a well-done and very malleable system.ETA: Apparently it looks like we'll be getting expanded Discipline powers in the Player's Guide?
Dawkins' statement about what he did for Oblivion kinda indicates that. I'm fishing for answers.

RE: Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition (VtM 5E)
@Ghost
Well, the book Cults of the Blood Gods will do a lot more to answer that question about the Giovanni, since the whole Hecata writeup (including backstory, why the necromantic clans joined up in parts, and independent takes on the necromantic clans) will be in there. The 'overview' most of us are expecting is a few pages worth, plus the 'core' basic Discipline. But it'll be nice for those to be playable come December, even if we won't have all the context for what they're doing now.SI will be choice though, apparently they've stated there will be rules for playable SI agents/mortals in that book as well as expanded equipment.

RE: Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition (VtM 5E)
So as of yesterday we got more information from Modiphius about those books.
Also some other info about organized play and playtesting from Modiphius, as well.
All in all, I'm a little surprised that Modiphius is doing all 13 clans in the book, which is different from what was the stated 'development philosophy' by one of the V5 developers, but at least it'll help with drawing in people who were skipping it because their favorite <x> wasn't in the book.
