@alzie I wonder why some people think Mage is complicated. I don't get it.

  • @arkandel @Alzie hehe. But seriously thanks this thing is much easier than trying to go thru the book to remeber this crap

  • Coder

@alzie SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY (Seriously, if this were reddit, gold would rain down upon your head.)

  • Now we just have to go through all the published rotes and edit them to follow the rulez.

  • @jennkryst except rotes are their own rules? A rote is basically a preprepaired spell ready to go at the drop of a hat.

backs slowly away, staring at the flowchart like it might bite

Okay, I now understand why people complain that writing code for WoD MU*s is difficult. Because that is a bananapants system, and whoever is responsible should feel bad.

1e or 2e? I don't remember which is which, honestly, but I know there are some difference which change everything...

  • Tutorialist

sigh This is such a gross over complication. It does not need to be this difficult.

    Pretty sure this is 1e.

  • @cobaltasaurus this is not over complicated at all. This is actually a brief and concise walkthru of creating spells. It looks complex but this is literally EVERY SINGLE STEP you need to take to cast a non-rote spell in 1e Mage. Sure there are steps you can skip once you get to know the system long enough but I still woukd rather have this flow chart than just the books

  • @sparks this is not something that has ever been coded into a WoD mu* afaik. General a mage player (more often than not with help from other mage players and staff) figures out all the math then just uses a built in dice roller.

It's an over complication and way more information than a new player is going to need. It is not brief and concise, it's a visual mess that sends people not already familiar with mage running for the hills.

  • @cobaltasaurus maybe it sends gou running for the hills. For me this is a godsend.

  • Tutorialist

@magee101 It doesn't send me running for the hills. I know how to the rules for casting in mage. I have had multiple people comment to me that looking at that image has completely turned them off of playing mage. @Sparks Is a good example of people turned off on mage. "This is too complicated, I'm going back to D&D." (Paraphrasing here.)

I'm glad it helps you, but it doesn't help everyone and it actively turns off some people.

  • @cobaltasaurus the book does that too. Yoi know how long it took for me to sit down and say ok lets do it! Mage is a game that is going to take effort to play. If that silly picture turns them off, they might not have really enjoyed mage anyways

  • Tutorialist

@magee101 Okay, sure. You're way of playing and learning is the One True Way, got it.

  • @cobaltasaurus i have yet to meet a single mage player that has ever commented that mage is a simple easy game thay requires no amount of hard work, thinking outside the box and exercises in long sessions of math. Because clearly what I s trying to say was my way is the only way. No what I was saying Mage by design is an extremely complicated game and if a flow chart makes people hesitate or step away from it entirely withiut even opening the book first then they probably would not have enjoyed the tedium of mid-late game Mage. Please take your sarcastic snark else where, like thw hogpit, where it belongs

  • Tutorialist

@magee101 I react with sarcasm to holier than thou people who aren't interested in having a conversation but rather ram their argument down other people's throats. I never said that mage wasn't complicated, it sure does get complicated. However this flow chart is a detriment. I learned how to play it via the help of patient people who walked me through spells in the different situations to casting them: Rotes, creative thaumaturge, ritual, etc.

Without a messy flowchart that is confusing to look at and follow. That flowchart is in no way required material for playing mage.

  • @Cobaltasaurus So you saying it is a detriment and me saying it isnt, I am the one with the holier than thou complex but you are just being the nice person? That doesnt make sense to me. I think that if this flowchart affects someone so syrongly they hust go 'nah no thanks' i highly doubt they would enjoy the deeper late game aspects of mage. Which thays not an insult, it just is a thing. Some people dont like mage for that very reason. Some people love mage dor that reason. Yet you insisting that no this is only a detriment is just as holier than thou than I am apparently being, at least I am not being a sarcastic asshole to you.

Eta: and where did I ever say it was required material? I said it shows every single step you take in spellcasting and helps a lot more than just hunting thru the books but I never said it was required. I simply defended it as not being a hot pile of garbage that needs to be removed like you think it is.
