Upvote vs Downvote Question
-
@Glitch
So does the forum only notify on upvotes? I have at times noticed someone upvoting something but seeing a 0 in the post total, while still showing their name on voicover. Also, I can't recall ever seeing a downvote notification, but probability is implausibly low that nobody's ever downvoted me.Pretty lame if it doesn't notify on downvotes (or show the names of downvoters) but does for upvotes. Boo.
-
I just want to be able to shut off notification for upvote (and downvote?).
-
Yeah, I just noticed today that apparently 'hovering' will show names of who upvoted a post, but not who downvoted it. I second that boo.
Edit : I now have another question. Please excuse me while I alternate upvoting/downvoting raptor's post for a few seconds. Do you get more than one notification?

Nah, only the one, but I do get a bunch of notifications if a bunch of people upvote the same post. Thanks, forum, I guess you want me to know I'm... loved?
Being able to shut off vote notifications would be cool, but it's pretty ridiculous that it only shows the upvotes, regardless.
-
I'm sure that this is to promote community harmony and prevent retaliative downvoting, but... yeah, I still think it's pretty lame. I don't care if it shows that I downvote someone. I do it so rarely that it's basically a special occasion, anyway, which I think is most of us. Secret downvoting seems kind of dumb. If you hate it enough to downvote, do so proudly.
-
It doesn't notify on downvotes, only upvotes. I don't know why. You can see who has downvoted a post, however. If you click on the number between the up and down arrows, it'll list out all who have voted.

It only shows upvotes on that.
ETA: At least to those of us who aren't administrators.
-
@Derp You have to click it, not hover over it.
-
@Derp Oh. Duuuuuuuuuuuuumb.
-
Yeeeep.
-
Try downvoting my post? I wonder if I get a notification as an admin.
-
Done. Let me know when I can re-vote it so it won't hurt your rep.
-
@Derp Nope, no notification for me, either. Harmony and care bears it is!
-
@Glitch I can't see who downvoted you by hovering. I think this is a feature, and not a bug, to protect the privacy of naysayers. It's about keeping the environment as non-toxic as possible, which is a farcical goal in the WoD online "community."
-
@Anonymous The bboard software we use here isn't really concerned with the online MU'ing community, so it probably just didn't even occur to them. The only options I have regarding reputation is to turn it off completely or turn off just down votes.
-
Turning off downvotes entirely might be cool, if it can't be shown who's doing it.
-
@Glitch Oh I know they weren't concerned with MU*s/WoD, I'm just stating their likely reasoning and of course why it simply doesn't apply to us.
Turning off reputation may or may not be a good approach. It does amount to a popularity contest on a forum where everybody recognizes the other's usernames, and will up/downvote them whenever a post is made.
-
I rarely downvote. I mean really though, this is basically who's like is it anyway, everything is made up and the points don't matter. This is like caring about reddit or voat points.

Reputation also serves as a threshold bar for user actions; you need a certain number before you're allowed to downvote, or flag. That number is one we can change.
