Let's be honest, I'm interested in ME:A as well. But I have little faith that Bioware is going to do the right thing and make a good game.

DA2 is the best game in the whole trilogy and you'll never take that away from me!
I do think that ME3 is the best of that trilogy because for me it was a near-perfect game until the last twenty minutes.

I liked DA2 but only when Hawke was being sarcastic. That saved the game after the first time I realized that the maps for each dungeon WAS EXACTLY THE SAME. I know it sounds trivial but that really did not settle well with me at all. Why would they be so lazy as to use the same map, down to the vegetation textures, over and over again? Did they think that if they blocked off one door with a stone wall, we wouldn't notice?
I started seeing patterns in DA:I but I feel like they went out of their way to make sure we wouldn't notice, down to the totally useless automap. I have never seen a more useless automap than DA:I... and I've played a lot of European RPGs that basically have no real map function at all.

That was a more serious jibe. Trolling is not putting words into your mouth, nor is it insisting something that is different than how it is. Trolling, to me, is eliciting a negative response from the position of innocence.
According to Urban Dictionary, trolling is:
Being a prick on the internet because you can. Typically unleashing one or more cynical or sarcastic remarks on an innocent by-stander, because it's the internet and, hey, you can.
This isn't me.
So yeah, no, I'm not trolling.

I'm sure they were super aware everyone would notice. The game was notoriously rushed out with immense pressure from EA after they bought BioWare, so. The constant map repetition does suck, I'll give you (and everyone else) that. But for me that's like literally my only complaint about the entire game, so compared to my favorite companions ever and my favorite story ever, it becomes a lot less important for me.

That's how I feel about it mostly as well, though I could have done without the horrible butchering of Anders or anything to do with Fenris. -
@HelloRaptor SORRY I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER HOW I REPLAYED SEVERAL HOURS OF THE GAME AFTER ACCIDENTALLY GETTING LOCKED OUT OF FENRIS'S ROMANCE SO I COULD FIX IT AND SMOOCH HIM ALL OVER

I was also upset about Anders after he had been super awesome in DAO:A.
These are all points I've stated before.
I don't understand the appeal of Fenris. Please explain. He reminded me too much of the angsty weird-haired Japanese RPG androgynous emo chars to be likable. For me. I ended up with Anders for both my male and female Hawke. I felt Pirate Gal was too much of an STD carrier, not to mention she is super flighty, and I mean. I guess there was Merril, if you like Tali.
I know. Fighting words. Bring it on.

When has trying to explain the appeal of a character you love to someone who doesn't like the character ever actually accomplished anything? Although I am confused at calling him androgynous, cause he's all strong jaw and prominent nose.
I will say that I didn't play Awakening and went straight from Origins to 2 and didn't like Anders at all the first round. Now that I'm a much angrier adult, I liked him a lot more in a replay last year.
Now I just love all the DA2 companions. Varric and Isabela are just cruel both being rogues because I always had to choose between them for my party.

@Thenomain I did have a friend who was so prepared to absolutely loathe Fenris based on the info that came out before the game and his appearance and everything, and then she got so mad when she loved him in play.

See, I don't usually have a problem with those characters, in general. But I think maybe he reminded me too much of Squall in Final Fantasy 8, who I most defs did despise in almost every possible way.

Pretty much all of the elves tend towards a bit of androgyny, really.

If that was rhetorical I get that, I've said much the same, but I tend to be a bit more open minded in looking at characters in modern RPGs. Some of the reasons characters are my favorites are because of particular moments, and with the way Bioware in particular sets up its games it's almost (or entirely) impossible to get every moment for every character, even some pretty well defining ones. It's entirely possible that, in particular because I didn't like Fenris much to start with, I rarely ever used him outside of where I absolutely had to (like his companion questline). As a result I missed probably 90% of his banter or input in particular scenes, etc.
So if it's just a general
for Fenris that would be hard to quantify, no it probably won't accomplish anything to say it again, but if there were particular moments that stick out in memory I'd be interested to hear them. On one hand, you should play Awakening. It's a lot of fun, and a good game. On the other, you might be a much angrier adult after you see what they did to Anders. It'd be like if they did a new Next Generation series but in the down time between Picard became a hardcore alcoholic 24/7 who had developed a brain tumor that caused him to become a misogynist. And wouldn't stop hitting on Wesley. >_<

I thought they were cruel because I enjoyed both characters but never wanted to take rogues with me because they'd be taking up a valuable wizard slot.

I mean, for one, Gideon Emery. His voice is ridiculous in the best sense of the word. I found Fenris seething rather than mopey, and I liked the fact that he was active in his angst -- like, he was on a mission, he wasn't just moping around. He was gonna murder some slavers, man. And one of my favorite things is that despite the fact that he's got certain shades of emo elf going on, he actually has a really funny sense of humor, which is possibly something you didn't get to see if you didn't take him around much. A lot of emo RPG folks -- like Squall, yeah, I was never in love with him either -- are all UGH NOTHING IS FUNNY I NEVER MAKE JOKES. Fenris actually does make dry, funny jokes, and he enjoys jokes by others. So they don't go the route of his emo sucking all the possibility of life out of him.

I played DA2 most often as a mage, so taking one additional mage was plenty for me. And I needed someone to open my locks.

Ahh, yeah, I didn't really get that from him at all, probably for that reason. See, I already think better of him. Maybe not enough to like him yet, but probably enough to take him with me if/when I play through the game again.

I did actually take rogues with me, though. My very first play through was snarky-mage Hawke and I took Isabela everywhere, because romance. My second was aggressive-warrior Hawke and I took Varric everywhere for dialogue. I don't think I got around to playing a rogue till the 5th time, though, and I took neither of them with me, because I was playing at high difficulty and one rogue was penalty enough.

Ugh. I only played one for completion-sake.
I stopped using them entirely in DA:O/A once I realized they'd put in code to allow warriors and wizards to bash or spell open locked chests/doors, and it just had to be enabled. >_>
