      I don't think I ever claimed to be trolling.

      And yet...

      Most of the gifs on the forum get posted in the Hog Pit. Stay out of it if your feelings are so delicate they can't survive a few reaction gifs.

      I do. And yet...

      I'm not following you.

      Perhaps if you had used a gif to express your ideas, I could understand.

              Look, some people enjoy them. That's OK. Some people are annoyed by them. That is also OK.

              If there's a 'hide images on X website' something somewhere, awesome. If there's a feature for the boards that turns images into links or collapsed stuff instead, awesome.

              There have been awesome threads with pictures in them where the point of the actual thread was pictures -- there's a pets one, a creative projects one, there's been PB shopping stuff here and there, some that are literally just random gif/image wars that are all easily avoided but are fun for those who wish to participate in them, and bluntly, they're something I consider a net positive to the board. It isn't just the gifstorm (which is pretty common all over the internet) that's a thing here. 😕

              Oh fucking well.

                I love gifs that are used in a humorous manner. About 1-3 per page is good. After that it gets to be too much.

                My confused Ryan Reynolds in the Shadowrun thread is comedic gold, you philistines!

                        Okay, so he's confused. I've never seen any of those movies so I'm not sure what the brilliance of your GIF is.

                        edit: @Tempest's made me laugh a bit, tho. By reputation, doesn't him moving on to Deadpool cancel out the horribleness that was Green Lantern?

                          @Thenomain It's not the person doing it; it's the expression itself in response to the situation.

                          Also, my reference to my posting of the image as comedic gold and statement that people are philistines is another comedic device.

                            So is the juxtaposition of, well, a few things in this case. Making the name of the person the focus of the point. Using text alongside the image. Using one reply that says the same thing as though it's funnier than another.

                            I mean, it would help if either of us were being particularly funny, but at least we know our tools.

                            😉

                              If you are using chrome, look for the following extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylebot/oiaejidbmkiecgbjeifoejpgmdaleoha?hl=en

                              It is called 'Stylebot' and it allows you to modify a site's css on a site by site basis.

                              While on MSB, click on the 'CSS' that will appear on the top of your browser window.

                              Click 'edit CSS'.

                              Cut and paste the following into the little window it pops up for you:

                              .topic .posts .content .img-responsive {
                              display: none;
                              border: none;
                              outline: none;
                              }

                              Click 'save'.

                              That should about cover it. It seems to be working on this thread while testing it, anyway.

                              Oh fucking well.

                                @Thenomain Text is a very poor communicator of comedy sadly, which is why gifs are such a wonderful tool. The body language conveyed by the gif communicates much more effectively than what most people can type.

                                  Except that you say your humor wasn't in the Gif, but in saying that the Gif was the best Gif ever.

                                  Mind you, your Gif could have been replaced 1:1 with the text: ???. The absolute best "...what?" Gif I've seen is not even animated; it's the one used by one of our users as their avatar where in the top frame someone has their mouth open and finger raised and eyes opened wide as if to make a point. In the bottom frame, the same person has lowered their finger and closed their mouth with an expression of having no idea where to go next.

                                  Or the text: "...What?"

                                  Comedy is perceptive, regardless of medium, and more importantly it is contextual. You've tried to insert some in a thread where multiple people have gotten tense about implications never made (nobody ever said get rid of Gifs) or insulting/mocking the people for their requests (asshole behavior, honestly).

                                  So, yeah, humor. We can all humor better.

                                    @Thenomain The humor I have used in this thread is textual, yes. I am referring to the humor that I used in the thread where the gif was originally posted, when I say that gifs are wonderful tools that can convey humor better than text in most cases.

                                    I could have replaced my gif with "???" or "...what?", but I find those dull and not very funny. Whereas watching a guy look about in dazed confusion is much funnier to me. It's subjective.

                                    As a serious reply to the thread topic, I see no reason not to allow such a feature, except for the time and effort it would take to implement it.

                                        @surreality If you use Firefox and GreaseMonkey then you can use this script:

                                          // ==UserScript==
                                          // @name        remove gifs
                                          // @namespace   musoapbox
                                          // @include     http://musoapbox.net
                                          // @version     1
                                          // @grant       none
                                          // ==/UserScript==
                                          var images = document.getElementsByTagName('img');
                                          for (var n = images.length; n--> 0;) {
                                            var img = images[n];
                                            img.setAttribute("src", "");
                                          }

                                        The downside is it doesn't stop the images from being downloaded, just from being displayed.
