Shame, in some ways. The premise for PI was actually pretty intriguing: the villains finally wised up, worked together and dealt with the heroes... and then nearly succeeded when Project Infinity was about to go live and make new superheroes... only to instead open up rifts through space-time around the city setting and bring in heroes and villains alike. I think the place might have worked if the original incarnation of staff hadn't burned out -- once the turnover began and the second generation of staff moved in and added to staff ranks with their friends, though, it went downhill fast.
-
I believe it was actually the third wave of staff, like Supernova, who started acting like if you logged into their supers game to play a super character you were some kind of power playing fiend who would ruin everyone’s RP. The only proper RP involved taking a non-powered straight character from a popular show and playing them as a gay werewolf. If PI was around now everyone would be playing Joe from The Flash, but as a gay werewolf.
In my time there staff didn’t really run things. Just approved characters and then hung out in the OOC room getting offended at harsh language.

For funsies here is a list of places I can remember having played. I am not providing names. This is not out of shame, but in most cases is because I genuinely don't know. So if you can remember a place and think to yourself 'oh, I remember this awful guy who once told the headwiz on the public channel that they were a right scoundrel and thusly got sitebanned' or 'there was a guy there who always pooped on tables in every scene, it was weird and off putting' that was probably me. I know I've played characters with names like Johnny, Sammy, Tim and Seth at least a couple of times each. Maybe a Silas in there, too. I staffed at a number of places, but fuck if I could tell you which ones. I'm pretty sure I was the first changeling wizard and played one of the first system-supported wraiths, but I don't remember where on either of those.
DarkWeb
Night & Fog
Dublin
Start Your Engines
Mountain Cauldron (theurge ritemaster got shunned by Gaia herself and gnosis reduced to 0 because he refused to gay marry two werewolves)
Dreaming
Dreaming 2
Teatime by ... Twin ... Twin Cities? Twin Cities by Tealight? Fuck, what was it?
Full Circle (I got banned for repeatedly referring to it as WoD on the Beach on public channels)
Elysium
Elysium 2
Masq
Paris (the one run by the guy and his mom and then he died and the mom got kooky)
Tombstone
Purgatory
CrackMUX
Tarterus (I see people post having played here seriously, but I swear to god I thought it was a sex MUSH. Two friends and I would log into the same character and then just pose the craziest shit we could come up with.)
Cajun Nights (I get that New Orleans has an unusual grid, but this place's whole diagonal bullshit was the wooorst)
Manhattan by Moonlight
The Damned
Dark Gift
Carpe Noctem (aka Carpem Nocte)
Northern Lights (unwittingly upset a person who'd had her kid taken away from her due to neglect)
Double Cross
GarouMUSH (this place was such a pain in the ass I actually do remember my character's name. Martin. He got played twice.)
In Pace Requiescat (played a nuwisha senator, despite the DC setting there was never any government RP at all)
Protean
Whispers and Dark Secretions (that was it, right?)
Texas Twilight
Veil of Seduction (vampire character declared anathema after using the word 'obfuscation' correctly in public)
Some game set in AtlantaThe clusterfucks I somehow missed, thanks mostly to Everquest:
Ashes to Ashes
Haight Ashbury
Haunted Memories -
Twin Cities by Teatime, of which I think there were three versions?
-
That's a lot more tea than feels called for.
I played on one of them. Cannot possibly say which. Or even what I played. Was it a Changeling MUSH? My gut is saying Shadow Court.
-
We played on a ton of the same games.
-
Most of these are from my teens. I was not very discriminating as to where I played, as long as it was WoD.
Twenty years and two kids later I can't even imagine playing on two places at once, to say nothing of the times I played with four or five games open at once. And that was in TF, before tabs. Jesus.
I know I played on a small number of non-WoD games, but none of them are coming to mind. Not CDI, though. The god of DarkWeb once tried to get a bunch of people to play on CDI and I could never figure out what the point was.
-
Two of them were Changeling games. One was set in Minneapolis/St Paul, and the other was set in Santa Cruz. I think the third one was multi-sphere, and don't know where it was set.
-
It would be that first one, then.
Uh.
So.
Did...
Did anyone ever explain why a game set in Santa Cruz was called Twin Cities by anything?
Maybe the third one was set in the Quad Cities region of Iowa and Illinois.
-
I thiiiiink because it had to do with the local area Changelings being part of Concordia, and the Undersea Changelings having their own kingdom, but it was a zillion years ago.
-
Edit: nevermind, I had a brainfart and I was thinking of a different game
-
Nowhere on your list is Dark Metal. It's not even under your "clusterfucks I missed" section which means either entirely skipped your radar (tho mentioning Masq, Elysium, and Tartarus I'm wondering how that could happen), or it was so bad that you blocked it out of your memory (you mentioned CrackMUX and Start Your Engines, so I'm wondering how that could be, too).
--
I played on one of the Twin Cities by Teatime, which if I remember right was a Seannan game. I once saw a post from a web cartoonist that I was following mention doing the illustrations for it and that it was a part of her life that she wanted to forget.
Last I saw, she was doing stuff for Disney or something similarly impressive, so I'll consider that a win.
-
I had a friend who loved DarkMetal and was there constantly, always as either a werewolf named Malachi or a Sabbat named Malachai. Or the other way around. I'd occasionally go and make something to hang out with him, but for him DarkMetal was a safari of PKing and TinyPoon. If he wasn't murdering people or fucking he was easily bored, so it was never fun for any of the people he brought on to hang out with for very long. So I didn't avoid it, but I also didn't really play there.
As dumb as the app process tends to be on most places, I always kind of felt that DarkMetal's free-for-all no-app structure meant that it was a MUSH where failure went to thrive.

I was kind of surprised at this. I mean, other than a by Night game I forget, DM was the only oWoD game I ever set foot on (...and is why I was afraid to touch any other for such a long time).

Those are on my 2003-present list in the OP.
This is my 1992-2001 list.

Devilshire - Cedric, Saint, Tim, Natt, Ringo, Bob, Thousand Truths (Staff)
I can not for the life of me quite remember why, but Cedric at Devilshire rings familiar.
