Let's talk about TS.
-
@tinuviel Is it public though? The topics here about specific people aren't usually going to be held on public channels in games. Either pages or held in off game clients.
-
@shincashay The definition I was given was 'the moment you air that grievance on a forum rather than to staff'. A channel is a public forum.
The definition is a poor one, but I'm not going to let that stop me.
-
@tinuviel The difference is they are not institutionalized by the server, which is what was suggested, and generally I find most people don't bring up problems with other players on public channels on servers.
-
-
@ominous The point I was making is that you can't avoid a court of public opinion. They're going to be everywhere no matter what you say or do. You can avoid letting the 'results' of their trials affect your decision making.

You're also definitely wrong about that.
-
-
@ominous No, I literally said the opposite.
The idea is that one should not try to stop 'courts of public opinion' because they're always going to happen. What one should focus on is not letting said 'courts' influence staff's decisions.
-
@tinuviel So the exact same thing I said in my first post? I'm confused. We're you replying to me out of agreement or...?
-
@ominous No. I am saying the opposite of what you're saying as well.

Let's keep it off of the MU*s, though

-
@tinuviel I'm pretty sure that was a direct response to the idea of using the court of public opinions to literally vote on player bans on games.
-
@tinuviel Read the context of the thread. We are discussing institutionalized courts of public opinion - trials.
Good attempt, though! I give it an A for effort in semantic derail.
-
@ominous If they're institutionalised, they're not courts of public opinion. They're courts. Be more clear in your responses.
ETA: And you did specifically mention bringing MSB's brand of crazy. Last I checked we don't get policy or punishment veto on any game.
-
I'd enjoy this if it was funny. This is just reaching dude. Like Stretch Armstrong type shit.
-
@tinuviel That was the point of my post. Institutionalizing courts of public opinion, especially ones like MSB, are a bad idea.
-
Whenever I see this thread pop up in my unread list, this conversation goes on in my head:
Thread: Let's talk about TS.
Voice in my head: Please god no.It's kind of sad that the voice in my head is more sensible than I am.
-
-
@ominous Yes, but the point of my post was arguing against the idea that one should outright ban the so-called courts of public opinion, which is what your post seemed to be advocating.
We agree that letting players 'decide' on banning or whatever is a bad idea.

No. Danny DeVito.

There is some thread in the history of the board where the whole 'all disciplinary action should be 100% transparent including all the logs and names and communications with staff involved and posted to the public for discussion' that had a lot of people talking about how this was the best practice ever.
Sadly, it is not just one person suggesting this. <prophet voice>This is a thing that has happened before, and doubtless shall again.</prophet voice>
I don't think that included actual voting on a result... but the voting part really just makes it so much worse. Imagine that setup and Spider on that game. (I take no responsibilities for the emotional trauma that notion induces, or any vomiting that may occur.)
