New Project?

@rdc New Mummy doesn't really work on a MUSH. Its very, very ... driven. You start out at power stat 10 and have this GOAL in mind and have to go solve it. You solve it then go back to sleep. As time goes on you weaken as you continue to try to solve it, but if you fail? You go back to sleep. Not actually trying to solve it (say, casual RP) actually hurts your power stat too.
There's some really weird edge cases and hard HR's you could throw to turn it into something mushable, but it'd start looking very little alike what the book new Mummy is about.
And yeah its 1e. It was the book right before Demon which was the first game whose first release was part of the 2e ruleset-changes.

I would really like to get to try 2e Promethean somewhere.
Beyond that, jesus, it'd be nice to have 2e ANYTHING. I don't even know of any 2e games anymore.
-
@tempest 2e has no content. The only 2e game I would be tempted by is Vampire, but Vampire... is Vampire.

@thatonedude Maybe he means there aren't fifty splat books for each game line to buy, I dunno.

@thatonedude said in New Project?:
Hurt Locker
Mage: The Awakening Second Edition
Promethean: The Created Second Edition
Vampire: The Requiem Second Edition
Half-Damned
Secrets of the Covenants
Thousand Years of Night
The Pack
Werewolf: The Forsaken Second EditionSo if I take out "Forthcoming" books (which do not exist), the gamelines that do not interest me (Demon and Beast), the repeated re-editions of the same book (you listed the basic CofD book basically three times), Hunter (which is an update for an already outdated book, since 2e is coming out) and Dark Eras (which interests me exactly 0%, given I can't use OPP shallow settings for anything) I am left with this.
In my view, this is some contentless shit, and some of these editions are actually downgrades. Secrets of the Covenants is a fucking mess I can barely read fluff-wise and powercreeps the whole gameline, for example, and The Pack has some... new rules for Lodges, I guess. At least that is more I can say about 2e Vampire (which has no rules for Bloodlines) and 2e Mage (which has the stupidest rules for Legacies).
The Vampire remake is great, the Promethean remake is... an acquired taste. I despise Wolf 2e, and I am really ambivalent towards Mage 2e. Hurt Locker had a BUNCH of good stuff if you like combat in WoD (which I don't), TYoN is decent, and I haven't read half-damned. I hope it is good!
So yeah, to me 2e is barren. If you don't like Dark Eras, Demon or Beast the whole 2e seems to get nuked by 60%. If you like it, awesome. I don't.
@Rucket There is too little that is out, and what is out doesn't really interest me. So yeah, you are not all wrong.

Upvoed both for the sentiment and for Britney. -
@thatonedude lol how constructive and reasonable. Go back to the Hog Pit.

@thatonedude Your response is indeed less constructive than mine, yeah. But here, man, I don't want this to escalate. This is my point: I think the fact these games are 2e is inherently tied to their failures. 2e has less options to spend XP on, and those offers usually are very low cost. It has few options, and what little it has seem to be broken at least 30% of the time.
In a strictly 2e game, with no custom content, a Vampire warrior can only really be a Wyrmcoil, Claws of the Unholy mongo if they want to hang in there. Nothing in the basic book compares. CrĂșac and Theban are weak af. There is no variation or mystery.
Do I like that games are measured in XP vs Toys I Can Get? No, but most players seem to want toys, which the 2e flagship Spheres do not have. To me the cadinal sin is the lack of variety. A Covenant full of 5 basic archetypes of classic Vampires is just... eh?
-
@ThatOneDude , you listed about 50 books, 90% of which are NOT OUT, DARK ERAS, REPRINTS, or specifically DEMON.

I see the remains of a great verbal battle and wonder what happened.

@sunnyj I get what you're saying, but that's not a problem that's gonna go away any time soon since Onyx Path wants to publish like 1 book every 2 years. I don't know if it's just the way the RPG space is heading or what. DnD 5E has been out for a while and only has a few core books. By this time in 4E, there were at least double the books. Even more back in 3.5E.
The thing for me is, 2E seems to streamline and make a lot of improvements over 1E, even with what's out there. Are there a bunch of dumb as fuck fighting styles or other crazy shit? No. But there's certainly a breadth of options, especially if you do plug in the Covenants book + stuff like Half-Damned and Hurt Locker.
-
@rucket Maybe you are right, man. I think 2e did Vampires right. Werewolf, on the other hand, I feel lost all of its charm, and it hadn't much to begin with. It got TOO streamlined and 'neat'. In the end of the day, there are a thousand of reasons and one for games not thriving. Maybe this is one, or not, but... who knows, dawg. Who knows.
