New Sphere Playing WoD

So, I want to play a sphere I am not familiar with (I typically focus on Possessed and Sin Eater). I know VERY little about the other spheres. I was hoping someone who is more knowledgeable about.. whatever would like to CG with me on Fallcoast (It is the only WoD that I know of that has possessed and Sin Eater). As.. well, anything but aforementioned spheres. I don't know if it is better to start with te minor version of whatever or just go in full tilt into the major one.

NO. God no. Don't do this. It's a trap. And it's also unfun for other players because you will probably eventually want to

Which is what you should do from the jump. Do not, please, go into it thinking that you are going to start o ff with somethig minor and learn as you go, or worse, 'learn it all IC'. This doesn't work. It's been tried a hundred thousand times and ultimately it's the equivalent, RP-wise, of someone reading the book to you because they have a gun to their head because 'IC Duty' and man it sucks. It sucks so much. It really, really does, and every IC mentor gets burnt out and every IC student feels left behind. There are a few cases maybe where it worked better than others, but come in as a fully trained whatever and learn OOC, rather than a semi-whatever and learn as you go.
It sounds great on paper, but the delivery is terrible. Promise.
The second way is the much, much, infinitely better.

I concur.
I've very familiar with Vampires, Werewolves, and Changeling. If you're thinking of going to The Reach / Fallcoast, you're going to want to know 1E as well as 2E. I'm fairly confident I can help for those races.

It will be on Fallcoast, yes. I have a sin Eater there. I've briefly tried Mage, Changeling, and Vampire before. Basically I CGed got really annoyed about how confusing it was for me, then gave up after it didn't seem like anyone wanted to reach outside their playgroup, so I never really did anything.
So, I have no preference on what to try. I don't mind whatever. @Ganymede if you have one you prefer, I'd be happy to attempt to CG under it. I just want to attempt to try something new.

I sympathize with this because this is me playing literally any non-vampire splat. ;O;
Haha. It is why I am trying to force myself out of my comfort zone. Only playing Possessed and sin Eaters pretty much limits where I play.

Anyway I second what people said about 'app someone competent,' because you WILL find people generally more willing to reach out to someone who 'is useful' in whatever way ICly, even if OOCly they need a bit of a helping hand, than someone who wants to play 'It's my first night on the job and what's a Caine, anyway?'
I sort of did the latter with my most recent vampire PC as a change of pace for myself, but I had already meshed with a play group who knew I wasn't going to trample everything and claim ignorance as to what I was doing wrong, and who I could plan out an arc of development with so that Dumb Baby Sabbat eventually earned her spot as Dumb Templar Sabbat.
I also advise against making a ghoul (or kinfolk or etc.) to 'dip your toe in,' because while those roles do have less commitment, it's also a lot more likely you're going to be kept on the fringes of anything important, or at worst assumed to be a TSable blood-doll or something.
Basically just shoot for something solid and be up front with people that you're still figuring things out OOCly. Most folks will be much more willing to help out a Brujah enforcer who's already suffered a few dots of humanity loss in the name of getting the job done than they will be a week-one Malk who's still crying over having to drink blood, just because they can probably take that Brujah along on a quest, while the Malk would just come off as a liability, politically and otherwise.

Just a small clarification.. I don't care whether I'm 'new' IC or not. I am 100% talking about hand holding OOC. I am not 'read the book cover to cover' type of girl when it comes to gaming. I focus on what is relevant to what I am trying to play and just eventually pick up everything else as I look it up to understand what the people are talking about.

To be honest, Vampires are probably the easiest to pick up. You don’t really need to be an end-to-end reader, and there’s a lot of room for competent newbie concepts.
Fallcoast’s XP and hybrid system, though, makes things a bit of a dumpster fire. 1E was known for being broken, and last I checked nothing was done to compensate for that. 2E is light years ahead, but it has its own broken aspects.
I still love the games, though, and would play if I thought I had the interest or time.

I mean, I think my advice still broadly holds up; my experience is that the more people think your PC will be a net positive to their IC life than a negative, the more they'll be willing to indulge helping out. That's only my experience, but I think there's at least a little bit of universality to it. Though I can't comment specifically on what people are like on FC OOCly; that, I literally don't know.

It /seems/ like staff is trying to do updating and the like to their stuff. So, maybe it will some what fix things? Not sure!
