CarrierRPI - a Survival Horror MUD
-
Alright, after one false start we're officially opening up applications again! Now that some balance issues are out of the way, and a few new commands are added, everyone should be able to come in and get their application submitted from now until open!
Connection info is:
carrierrpi.mudhosting.net
Port: 5000I want to be clear as well in saying that there may be some issues going in, some crashes, and some bugs. All that I ask is that, if you notice any, you post them to our forums at: http://carrierrpi.mudhosting.net/forums/index.php?board=6.0
Thank you!

If all that happened. The earthquakes and floods that wiped out coasts and entire cities wiped out. The loss of life, infrastructure, port cities, food sources such as fishing towns and farm land. Entering a golden age just doesn't seem feasible. I mean, we get one big flood in New Orleans and they're just now getting back to where they were before. That's fifteen years in one city. I'm with @Tempest, just doesn't feel that plausible.
-
@DnvnQuinn What if in that same story they said they built giant ships called arks that only the richest and smartest could gain passage on...
Oh wait, that was already a movie...
What IF! There is a bunch of stuff in this fictional world like advanced tech, ancient fucking aliens or anything else? Just because we suck now doesn't mean we'll suck in our fictional future.
-
Yeah, it doesn't seem plausible with what we currently have, but that doesn't mean this alternate future doesn't have some crazy secret sci-fi tech hidden away for government testing, and some politician decided to actually make use of it instead of just sitting on it. Plus, the way I understand it, the places that were flooded are still flooded. No one's trying to rebuild like with Katrina, they're focusing what's left of the population into what still remains largely untouched.
And finally, that whole part of the history is just... window dressing. Sab already said it's not the focus of the story. It's just a pretense to get the characters into the right state of mind for the actual game.
-
Maybe everything got destroyed and they released the nanite builders!

This is the important part, I think.

Hey! Sorry if the lore with Carrier doesn't come off as particularly realistic, but I have some logic behind the positives and the negatives coexisting.
The reasoning behind the whole "Catastrophic Shit Leading Into a Golden Age" kind of world being built is that, despite the negative things that are happening, positive advancements are still being made at the same time.
So, while bad shit happens, good shit is also being developed. There isn't a situation in the lore where one good thing entirely outweighs the bad. While people are still getting by happier and healthier then they ever have, there's still rampant drug use, mourning over the dead, rebuilding, etc.
And, like others have mentioned, a lot of it is supposed to be a backdrop for the actual gameworld, which won't be impacted by the rest of the world pretty much at all.
-
Which makes me ask: What in the background is important for the setting? If it's important that there was world-ending events, then keep it, else how does it help the story?
-
Beyond character backstory it likely won't mean much, but later on down the line as the plot progresses it'll become relevant.

What's up everyone! Happy to say that CarrierRPI is going to be opening tomorrow at 12PM MST. Applications are open now, and I'll be online most of today to answer questions if anyone has any!
We also have a website now at carrierrpi.com
Our Wiki is still being populated, but we'll have more content on there soon as well!
