@Collective I've played a wolfbrother or two (probably not very surprising), and on one hand they made some things very fun to deal with based on what they were capable of, while on the other I felt like there were more opportunities that could have been out there that weren't capitalized on because there weren't many people to work on certain angles with.
One example would be touching more on things with the world of dreams and the relationship with the wolves themselves. Another could be a more open fight against the Dark, depending on what's going on. I'd try that again if the chance was there.
This is really day 2 of me really considering this, but at the moment I am leaning towards a time before the books. One of several options there:
Trolloc Wars? Set the MUSh in Manetheren. Same world, but leaves some world building up to the MUSH and its players... any gives a good end of the story. Everyone dies, but inflict a lot of damage and fun on the way!
War of Hundred Years? Hawking is dead, almost all of the familiar countries and cultures are there, but new and fresh. Conflict, enemies, politics!
White Cloak War Leading up to the Aiel War? Lots of wars.. But conflict, enemies, politics. Similar to War of Hundred Years but closer to book timelines, more established with known theme
Setting it before the books means no Seanchan, Aiel or Asha'man.. but I'm probably fine with that. Means that channeling would be limited to Aes Sedai and they have the Three Oaths to stop them from being completely obnoxious murder machines.

No clue, but I can say with confidence that it'd be easier to implement DFRPG on Evennia or Ares than on MU softcode.
I'd have no real idea what sort of timeframe to suggest for it. It's been a long time since I've thought about that in terms of periods that would avoid dealing with having all the book characters around, if that's the goal.
A lot of it depends on what you would or wouldn't want people able to do and how they'd be meant to fit in overall without, presumably stretching RP centers too thin. But, if you have a mind for game expansion if the playerbase can support it, you also have to factor in what you may or may not lock yourself away from if you pick a time where there are, for example, no Aiel or Seanchan possible. Having a couple more tightly-grouped RP centers is best, though.
The war/conflict side can be appealing, but I'd take care not to make it too great a focus at the expense of anything else. Not suggesting that's the plan, of course. I just like a variety of RP options available within a setting.
Yeah, aside from the trolloc war the "war" aspect of the setting is more of a historical backdrop than the focus. I see the trolloc war option as being the most High epic fantasy way to go with the setting while the other two would be more political, lord and lady, us vs the Evil in the small scale than large

I actually like the idea of setting it during the Aiel War, although you're going to have to figure out if you want to allow PC Aiel, and if so, can they "defect" to play with the rest of the playerbase.
I think that you're right about needing some flexible timelines, but I'm not entirely sure why you wouldn't let people start as Blademasters if you'd let them start as Aes Sedai--the power available to a Blademaster is minimal compared to that of an Aes Sedai.
There are a couple of ways that you could handle channeling under Ares, ranging from the simplest (Channeling skill and "weapons" based off weaves, everything else just RPed) to middle of the road (Saidar and Saidin skills, weapons based off weaves, and a compendium of rules for other weaves like we did on The Fifth World), to the more complex (Saidar and Saidin skills, weapons based off weaves, compendium of other weaves, and an added system for channeling weariness).
I agree with the idea that if you have Traveling, you can have grids all over the place, but I would definitely still focus things on a single city (or a single city plus Tar Valon, because you know that people will want to be Warders and Aes Sedai), just have micro-grids for the other cities.
Setting the timeline before the books actually means Travelling isn't a concern, at least to start.
Not letting people start as blademaster is more of a scarcity thing. Id want it so that any character can achieve it without the rigors of the past, but not so that every character has it.
Channeling would likely be the third complex option. Basically what it is in DFRPG.
Should add that in my head a Heron mark stunt/ability wouldn't be a combat bonus. The combat skill associated would be from the actual combat skills/stunts. The heron would give a social bonus/perk thingy. The sword doesn't make the man, etc etc.
Man, I loooved playing on Cuendillar, but I have a shitty memory and I wouldn't know how to play on a WoT game anymore without good files or reading some of the books again.
Anything without Aiel as playable characters would make a lot of people sad, I think. 
Also I'm curious on what people's stances would be, concerning stuff like having the Forsaken as NPC/ST antagonists or letting PCs do Black Ajah, etc. Would male channelers be flat out no? Female warders? (Lemme have a snowflake spearmaiden warder on my AS plzkthx)

I honestly ahbor pretty much everything about the Aiel so I personally wouldn't miss them, but I know a lot of people love them. Depending on the time period they could be added in somehow,
male channelers.. probably no. Not unless set during the books wth Asha'man.
Dark friends and black ajah are part of the theme and would be allowed, but need to be closely monitored to keep with the theme of secrecy.

Really, I'd be fine with someone bonding a Spear maiden if the RP was there to support it. they would not, however, be getting a fancloth cadin'sor.

I envision a wiki pointing to some of the good web resources for theme info, the plot summaries, etc, while spelling out some of the big stuff I'd want reinterated on the wiki itself (the three oaths for example)

Need to make decisions. Setting, crunch and code. After that it's finding help for things like help files and documentation and wiki.
Crunchy system stuff and the code to use is probably the first choice to make. Everything else is built on top of it. This is only day 3 but at the moment leaning towards AresMush and figuring out how to convert DFRPG style magic system over to FS3. Have a vision in my head that I need to write down and map out.

Last time this happened, I got 7 books in before getting distracted. Had to buy them all over again at the time, too.
