Humble Bundle has a Python Bundle
Aww, shit. The deal goes away right before I get paid again. Sonuva.
Those are not "Python for beginners" books. I'd give it a hard pass if your goal is to learn Python for Evennia or the like.
Codeschool has a level 1 course for free, and you can probably get through the other levels in one month ($30). I've done a number of their courses and they're awesome. They also have Ruby for folks wanting to learn that for Ares.
There's also the free official tutorial. No bells and whistles but it'll get you what you need.
CodeAcademy is also free. Haven't used it.
Udemy is having a crazy New Year's sale ($10 for 100 lectures and lots of video) but I can't vouch for the quality.
I'm sure there are others.
Well! I'd want them on hand. I have https://www.amazon.com/Learn-Python-Visually-Ivelin-Demirov/dp/1507727070 (I backed his Kickstarter). I also have this collection of books, some of which are general 'learn to program,' some of which are other languages (there's at least one Python book in there). I do have a beginner's course on Udemy, also.
So it'd be more 'for down the road.' Like, I'm not looking at that Bundle for 'this is where I want to begin.' I already have those! But it's a fantastic price for having reference material on hand.

I'm just a little dubious on the value of that reference material. It's highly specific stuff ... Learning Robotics. Raspberry Pi. Data Analysis. Networking. These are not general-purpose topics that are going to come up in most projects.
If it's right for you it's right for you. You would know that better! I was just making a general comment about the contents of the package as it relates to game programming.

Well, game programming would be a start. Raspberry Pi is something else I've want to toy with, down the road.
And I have a few friends who have been pushing at me to join them in the land of developing as a career. So if Python works well for me; game programming is a sort of 'entry' as in 'hey this interests me and it'll keep me hooked in from the start,' but the rest may keep me going to get me the leg up I'd need to polish it into something stronger.
EDIT: What I was always told is the best way to learn is to find something that interests you and focus on it for a while. So that's where I'm beginning.

Since some people mentioned learning / getting better with Python, Humble Bundle has a Python Bundle.
Not a coder so no idea how good a deal it is for 24 ebooks and a 3 month licence for something for $15 what with the holidays just over and wallets hurting, but there you go!
Just bought this. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm guessing it was one of you (it didn't list a name!) who sent me the bundle. thank you.
I'm collecting things so that once I finish this degree, I can sit down and begin the programming venture and Python is where I've decided to begin. My Ideas re: MU*ing are just the toys I've decided to begin with to keep my ADD brain focused and engaged.

Late to the party but...Goals for 2018
- Draw more & consistently. (I have my first table coming up in September for Rose City in Portland. Eep)
- Get beyond a beginner level in UX design, developing my html/css skills to an intermediate level
- Run some tabletop games
-
My goals for 2018:
-
Start actually playing on a game, even if only at low activity levels. Maybe give Arx another go? Tempted to make a Whisper so that I can do the social and event running stuff without having the responsibility of being a duke like when I played it last.
-
Get New Fading Suns MUSH launched. It is actually looking doable, a ton of work done, a grid, an awesome person actually doing code (Holy shit I failed at trying to even port in the Star Crusade code with full access to the database). Then like, run the place and hopefully make it cool instead of falling into the pit of previous Fading Suns attempts.

Bundles are nice! Wait, what kind of bundle? Is it a nice bundle? It sounds like a nice bundle.

I need to refresh myself on Python, and then nudge my friend who a few years ago was hardcoding a Python-based MU* core.
I am REALLY bad at keeping up with resolutions, though.
