Shadows of Paradise: help wanted!
-
My general problem with Beast is that the system talks about synergy with other supernaturals, but gives only a few examples in the core book. Perhaps they were planning (or have released) a book or books based on Beast + (Game Line of Choice).
Best of luck, of course. I'm looking forward to see the implementation.
-
Only tangentially related, but there was a time I wanted to do an Aberrant MU* set in Ibiza. There's so much tourist blowthrough in Ibiza the city is 'larger' than the census would suggest.
-
What kind of extras are you allowing within the spheres that you offer? Like will you be allowing for custom Bloodlines with Vampires? Are you using all the options and character traits from splatbooks for Demon and Beast (ie Heirs to Hell)?
-
Hi Shelbest!
We do want to allow as much as we can within reason and I know that our vampire staffer is really keen to have bloodlines, as well as Dhampir.
Demon we are going to be much more cautious with as the potential for craziness is much greater. I know that the staffer we have on board is keen to make sure that she is working with a small, knowledgeable group of players. Stigmatics will be a thing for sure though.
Though this might actually all be a bit of a non-starter unless we find another coder, and we are fairly early in development, so a lot may still change.
Hope this was of at least some help!

I really enjoy playing a Beast. Hope you're open for play soon. Great stuff!
-
@taika Every time I hear about Drop Bears, I think of Drop Bears from Infinity the Game... Which coincidentally also has something called crazy koala. Both blow up on people.
-
@golgoth - Reminds me of Waste It's and Waste Em's from HoL.
-
No Promethean. Again.
Oh well. -
I'm curious on this game if it lost traction based on a coder still? There is @Thenomain 's code out there with stuff from @skew and @Cobaltasaurus . I know of another coder that works on WoD stuff as well. Is the big issue trying to do custom stuff? Is it TinyMux?
-
Hey!
So Promethean is a tough one. I will be honest and say I am not really familiar with 2e Promethean, but at least with 1e the Wasteland effect and the Disquiet you had to rip away so much of the character of the game in order for it to just be workable that it never sat well with me.
The only place I ever saw attempt it was Fallcoast I believe, and that was not really very successful or popular. I know there were some interpersonal things that sort of scuppered it early in its run there too though.
I actually really like Promethean as a game, it just doesn't really seem to play very well in this sort of a fixed setting MU environment and I don't know how you would work around that very well. I am very open to being convinced on it though.
Hope this helped explain why we didn't include it for you.

Hi!
Yeah, it really did! We started out as a group of friends wanting to get something off the ground, but only one of us really knew any code at all. That person, unfortunately, had a lot of RL drop on her all at once and will be out of commission for the foreseeable future I think.
We are still talking about other ways it could be done that would require less technical know-how, like making it forum based for example. I would still love to hear from anyone that could help us out (It is TinyMux) and I will definitely keep you posted on what the eventual outcome of it all is.
Cheers

You might want to see about talking with @Thenomain ... I aint one to talk but I saw he may have put some thought into some of the game lines you referenced:
-
To note:
- Beast is not done. It is done enough, but the Kinship Nightmares weren't touched because their conditions were very, very frustrating and I didn't work out the best way to limit these. (The answer is to limit all Kinship Nightmares and let the staff work it out, but I don't like this option.)
- Promethean is not done, mostly because I ran out of energy. I really do like this game line, but I think it suffered some of the similar issues I had with coding Demon: Too many contextual stats. (edit: Yup, there they are. Refinements. Sigh.)
- Hurt Locker is not quite complete, but I really want it to be. Its mostly-complete status was implemented on @SunnyJ 's Mage game. You know, that one. That one we all know. That one.
I'm sometimes amused by my commentary. "New Old VtM Castes". Like "instant classic" it only makes sense when you ignore pure logic for whatever the human brain does.
--
I've gotten in mild trouble with my bosses over time for assuming pure logic when things were stated, and not marketing logic which is a "pay attention to the spirit of the topic" logic. Meh.

ThenoCode is, indeed, alive and well. It's active on at least one game right now, and I'm busily tossing it up onto a server, and continuing to suggest improvements as I do. I'm always willing to help folks with MU-code, and specifically ThenoCode, but no one asks and I'm not about to chase down additional work.
As for how adaptable the code is, I'd have to ask "What do you want to do?". Adding new stats (merits, powers, etc) is doable, though can become quite tricky if there's complication (eg, you need to buy x then y then Z becomes cheaper). All that said, the gamelines chosen here are done (or done enough, as Theno says).
Assuming, yes, it's on TinyMUX.
And now I'm just rambling. What was my point?
-
I use ThenoCode on Descent.
-
Any chance of Mage being added, eventually?
-
We're trying to implement Theno's lovely cache of code, but speaking as the one trying to do it, I'm running into issues beyond my ken. The tests in each section don't produce passing results for me
Still, tinkering with it as time allows. We'll get there eventually, I hope!

Thenomain on Gmail.
And Skype.
And Discord. Not all the tests are in the right place. (Sorry.)

I did not know Beast: The Primordial was even a thing. I love dragons. Not surprising for someone who is trapped inside all the time. I can relate to a creature who hoards its precious treasure while the outside world spins by consumed by chaos.

Thank you so much, Theno. I'll be in touch next time I have a good amount of time to work at this.
