    • RE: Too Much

So I don't MU anymore. I RP on a GTA RP server these days. It's different in a lot of ways and the same in others.

But this is where it really really differs. I have been at and run events where there's so many people that area of the city is crippled and framerates struggle. We're talking 50-80 people in one spot. But since you can only hear in a limited realistic range you end up with more realistic clusters of people interacting.

I don't miss the days of 'I have to respond to everyone here or else someone might get upset at me' and I love the realism of going 'hey guys I see a friend I'll be right back' and running off to greet that person. You miss out on stuff yes absolutely but it's not in your face that you missed out.

Also scenes don't last twelve hours and it's a million times easier to just bug out.

Big events are one of the things that keeps me in this (still new to me) environment. I had stopped attending them altogether on MUs due to a lack of mental capacity. Now I'm running them again on a regular basis. It's refreshing.

    • RE: Funniest IC Moment You Have Ever Experienced

A very, very well-written 'Kool Aid Man' moment from a Colossus on an X-Men game years ago. And Avalance's response of screaming shrilly before fainting. It's been like, two decades and I still crack up thinking about it.

While I keep up with MU friends and reminisce a lot, I actually have transitioned into GTA RP and I'd have to say I end up with a lot more LOL moments in that. Not all of them intentional, but the improv level is so high that it just begs for it (a highway officer getting marine training going "I'm in pursuit. Weather's wet, traffic's dolphin." is one example that had me cracking up and so upset I forgot to record).

    • RE: Good TV

      @arkandel said in Good TV:

Make Galadriel any race you want, dammit. Just find a great actress and write her to act like Galadriel, not Xena: Warrior Princess.

Case in point: Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon.
Best thing about The Batman IMO.

    • RE: The Work Thread

I work in a job that pays well, is in an amazing industry (renewable energy), and I'm doing what I have a degree for. It should be great.

Unfortunately my boss is a sexist piece of shit who is verbally abusive. So I'm job hunting and it makes me kinda sad because I'd love to stay but I cannot with that man.

    • RE: The Worst Thing You Have Done in this Hobby Thread

To myself: waste time and effort on people I knew didn't give a shit about me.

To others: install logging on the server I ran for a game I was server admin / a story admin on because the previous head admin left it in the hands of a group where not one of us was over the age of 17 (I myself was 16) and it went about as well as you can expect. Reading over logs of fellow admin and seeing what they said about the rest of the admin team and players is not something I am proud of and my only defense now -- decades later -- is 'I was a stupid kid.'

    • RE: Mercenary Entrepreneurship

      Oh.

This is someone who read Hunter S. Thompson, said 'I can do that' and is now desperately trying to cover up the fact that they honestly have no idea what they're doing.
