There was much sobbing. People dying in other people's arms, dragging the remaining folks out of a burning building, etc. IT WAS GREAT. \o/

I've been on the game since the start of the current story, and it's been some of the most fun I've had on an MU*; the setting and mechanics are great and the RP has been wonderful. Lots of varied and interesting interactions with all the characters, and the plot's been engaging. Come join us for the good times!

This is a quick head's up that KB and AM have handed off the game to some new folks to run, among them myself, Grimdarque. Same domain, new IP which should be winding its way through DNS as we speak. So, for future Gray Harbor related stuff, send such things my way. They made a wonderful game for which we can't thank them enough, and we're happy to keep on keepin' on.

@krmbm said in How to launch a MU*:

@wizz Just on the flipside of this: Some people (hi!) actively avoid the "sim" games.

This. A lot of people pay for an MMO sub of kind or another. As one who does, I'm definitely not doing tasks in my RPing too. (But this is also because RP fills a specific niche for me in my personal downtime, and the MMO another, and I've zero interest in combining that in any way.)

I guess what I mean is, if a task system is in any way required to advance in the game, you will lose some interest. Though this gets back to the other part of KB's reply: maybe that's what you want, and it's fine if you do. Just know that players who aren't into that will probably avoid the game even if the rest of it (theme, etc) would be their jam.

Sorry for that small patch of downtime; we're back. 🙂 Let me know if the portal keeps acting silly.

A couple of additional bits re: the 1:1 change:

      • There's a calendar blip in which everyone in encouraged to have some fun time-tornado shenanigans. Did you go to sleep and wake up in a totally different house? With a dog you don't remember getting? Also exactly when did you start this new job??
      • People coming in from outside town can absolutely use this as an in for why they showed up. 'THIS THING WHERE 12 WEEKS VANISHED, WTF?' is a perfectly good reason to arrive at the seeming locus of this weird.
      • The part where the rest of the (mundane) world seems to think this_is_fine.jpg while everyone with in town woke up almost certain they left the stove on or felt an earthquake is a good reason to be Looking For Answers.
