    • RE: Couples who MU together

This is another sitaution where I've seen the good and the bad sides of some of these sitautions. I've Mu*ed on various games with my partner for a good many years. Yes, we have some characters who have come together as couples, but usually we have far more non-partnered characters. Do our alts come across each other? Sure. It happens.

I don't really see an issue with it, so long as you have a wider RP pool than just your partner. (The same goes for Rping with your friends, tbh.) In fact, most of my characters, even those in relationships, Rp more with people outside of their relationships than they do within them. But I might just be an oddball in that regard.

Alas, I've also experienced some bad OOC reactions from other players when it comes to playing on the same game as my partner. The worst being when the sins of one partner being taken out on another. (Your partner said this and you didn't tell him to stop so you must be horrible too! or I hate so-and-so and you're married to them so I won't RP with you/interact with you/let you progress either!)

In any case, no, I don't think that couples should be treated as alts for each other. As others have said, it's no different than friends playing together. But honestly, I'm an individual, and I prefer to be judged by my individual RP and actions, not by my connection to my partner.

Umm it helps to tell us who you were on all of them too 😉

As I'd said, I've played well over 100+ characters, so going back and trying to remember or list them all is kind of more effort than I want to put in just now. In any case, I tossed in main ones I could remember, though it's probably only a small fraction of the ones I've played.

I've played on a good number of places since somewhere around 1999. Rather than trying to dig up over a hundred+ character names, I'll just list a couple of main ones. I've been staff on various places as well, but have bowed out of doing that for at least a year or so. This is just the ones I can remember at the moment, I know there's more...

African Tales Muck - Entwidemela, Kiapo
      Demi Haze - Kiza
      Tena Maisha - Ishara
Lion King Muck - Wingu, Kizawaa
      Pridelands Muck - Aya
      Meadows Muck - Nova, Maka

Ansible Moo - Gwydion, Kiritani, Lia, Anubis
      Shadow Moo - Dios, Ember
Gargoyles Moo - Zia, Tucker, Chaos
      Starstones Moo - Kassi
      Harper's Tale Moo - R'yn
      Hogwarts Moo - Lochlyn

Angelic Layer Mush - Mikage, Kiyoshi
      Pernworld Mush - Sorrin, R'owan
      Eventide - Sandra, Kaya
      Camp Half-blood Mush - Rowan
Demigod Mush - Rowan, Seth, Andrea
      Chrono Muck - Kamali
Magical Destiny: The College Years - Kyoko, Disarray
Super Robot Taisen - Sinya, Alina
Final Fantasy Mush/Mux - Wynter, Kira
Final Kingdom Mush - Zia, Hati, Disarray
Star Wars: Generations of Darkness - Aria, Rynn, Skritt

    • RE: Which MU* telnet clients are still popular?

@Arkandel It's okay, I'm content with my heretical ways at the moment. It's been a few years, but if I recall, the issue wasn't so much being able to change the size of text inside the individual windows (which was fine), but the fact that the headers/menus/etc. were stuck at something close to a 4pt font. I haven't tried it on any more recent PCs, so it's entirely possible that it was an issue with the PC I had at the time.

I used to use SimpleMu almost religiously, until I got a newer PC and it stopped being compatible (text size was minuscule and there were no settings to adjust it) due to the lack of support.

I used MuckClient for a while, which was nice because it had an integrated spellchecker, but it lacked a lot of the functionality of other clients.

Eventually, I got convinced to give MushClient a try, and that's pretty much been all I've used for the past few years.

    • RE: How did you discover text-based gaming?

My first experiences into text-based RP started back on AOL. I got involved in Star Trek sims that were run semi-professionally at scheduled times, and later found out about other sort of themes being run in the public-made chats. Got involved in guild combat/role-play through there and spent my mid-teenage years pretending to be a Goblin and smashing heads while staying up far too late and drinking far too much coffee to be healthy for a highschooler.

I was introduced to MU*s in college by my freshman year roommate, who played on a MUCK called African Tales, which was Lion King based and I was pretty much sucked in from there.
