There is dispute over it's the real Shalnooshboosh. People are requesting a screenshot of the name#0001 ID. I would like to point out anyone can change their name#0001 ID which I learned while trying to get proof someone was Cullen! You see they had the same username as Cullen on discord BUT the #0001 numbers were different. Someone else tested and you can do this.
Jeshin#0001
change to Bob#5555
change back to Jeshin#3214
You always get a new ID tag so you can claim I've been impersonated every time! -
@Jeshin Yeah, I have Discord Nitro and can change my # to whatever. But I don't think you can change your username and ID # to the exact same as someone else already has? Like it can't be an exact match or else it's not unique. I could be wrong.
-
Ultimately these people circle around to MSB to see what's being said about them. Happens every time, even with people who don't typically socialize here. Plenty of people keep accounts just in case.
So with that in mind...
This kind of fucked up behavior isn't less severe simply because it's online. It's very real sexual harassment. If the staff of this game don't remove that staffer from the game itself (not just staff, but the game) then they are stating that sexual harassment of players is acceptable on their servers or in relation to their platform.
At some point the line has to get drawn, regardless of it taking place over Discord. It was sexual harassment/quid-pro-quo in relation to the game itself. On any game I would run, that would be a perma-ban. Safety first
-
Correct you can't change it to an existing ID but when someone is providing screenshots. As soon as someone finds out they change their user# , dispute them. If someone updates with new screenshots of you having this new name# you go photoshop! They clearly changed it after realizing we'd -caught- them.
-
@Jeshin Ahhh, I get you now.
-
@Jeshin (dryly) So, it could be any random person on the internet, out of millions, behaving like staff on Armageddon with game-level knowledge.
Could be some random non-player hacker in Chechnya pretending to be staff!
Sounds legit
-
Armageddon has a board similar to MSB which points out disagreements with staff and the like. Discusses the game because the staff used to (could still) over moderated the official game board. Thus they can claim it's disgruntled ex-players looking to hurt the game which has been claimed before.
-
@Jeshin Anything less than a commitment by staff to investigate and punish the person responsible (to secure the game as a safe place for players without having to worry about sexual harassment) is disingenuous.
At the very least that staff should be placed on temporary suspension pending investigation.
Hope it all goes well.
-
Gracious,, whyever might such an entire forum of people exist? It would not possibly be because of poor behavior and treatment by staff, would it?
-
So this is like -- what -- Dark Sun with the serial numbers filed off?
Also, I'm not sure how anyone proves that they are anything over the internet, but this certainly seems like kind of a clusterfuck.
-
@Derp All I know is WHAT BALLS does it take to actually tell someone oocly that you'll do something for them ICly if they TS your character?
Pretty brazen and highly loggable.
And in the log they weren't so coy about it, enough that I could assume it wasn't the first instance of this happening.
-
Wow, what a piece of shit of a human being.
-
Disturbingly shit human being.
That said, I experienced something similar on LegendMUD, decades ago (where staff handled it very well and efficiently, credit to them). A player somehow took control of my husband's character at night, having apparently guessed its password. That was bad enough considering that the 'hacker' devoted several months of time (before discovered) to establishing a relationship with a girl in the US. In fact, we only did discover the whole mess when said girl logged on in Central European Time, to announce that she was flying over to marry my husband.
When we investigated, my husband's character appeared to log on only from our house, just like this piece of walking human waste from Armageddon. I could certainly testify that my husband was in bed or at work at the time stamps of log-on (nevermind the fact that frankly, the English used in his supposed correspondance with American girl was way above my not-English-native speaker husband's levels).
I'm told this is apparently a common thing. Simply copy or spoof the IP address of the person you're harassing.

echo ${GhostsOpinionOnMUSecurityFlaws}
Spoofing an IP address isn't hard if you have access to the user's IP address and access credentials, which most staff have. In theory, staff could easily set up a sniffer on the incoming port to log all incoming transmissions, which would be in clear text due to using telnet protocol.

You know, I've been thinking about it - not that this incident is unique or this particular guy is anything special among all the other idiots who plague the hobby.
I decided there are two things that bug me.
-
How little this kind of person thinks of others. He wasn't offering any tangible benefits, money, anything at all... he really hoped to buy someone's basic dignity - OOC, not IC - for some kind of IC favor on a game they had barely even played and had zero investment in. In other words, for nothing.
-
How little he thinks of himself. He wasn't standing to gain anything either; it's just over TS, which is the cheapest commodity in all of MU*'dom and it's literally handed out for nothing in any ol' game. Sure, there's some kind of OOC thrill somewhere in there but damn. His own soul sure got priced super low in that bargain.
Meh.

It looks like, in this case, the accuser isn't coming out looking so clean.
