When I was little and I threw a tantrum in public, it didn't matter where we were or what we were doing, my parents would just pack me up and leave. Halfway through dinner at a restaurant? Doggie bags. Middle of the grocery store? Full cart returned to an employee with apologies while they marched screeching toddler-me out of the store. After about half a dozen goes at it, I decided that I liked going out and doing things more than I liked having fits, so I stopped having tantrums in public.
Didn't even matter if you were someone else's kid. Didn't matter where we were or what property you were on. Drop me off at school and find a pack of kids bullying someone? She'd yell at you to knock it off and get your asses inside before she called your mother. Running around the neighborhood acting all crazy-like? She'd scream at you to get out of the damned street before you got hit by a car. This is precisely the types of things that the people in question are protesting against. If we took any kind of action like that, more punitive than what is already out there, you're just adding jet fuel to the fire.
FREEDOM! is a national religion, and that mostly means that the government can't tell you what to do.

I was once getting kicked by a kid on public transit, and I turned around and said to the kid's mother, "If you don't make them stop, I will." and the mother got all bent out of shape, yelling, "DONT TELL ME HOW TO RAISE MY KID." and I yelled right back, "WELL SOMEONE FUCKING NEEDS TO." and she just shut up.

Daughter: Hey, that kid cut in line.
Partner: She did.
Daughter: Why?
Partner: (loud enough so the other kid's parent could hear) Because some people don't teach their kids what's right or wrong or what will end up with them getting their ass handed to them.I like them both a lot.

I am so very tired, and emotionally about to overload. I'm tired of having to work two jobs to be able to afford a used car, half the rent for a halfway decent 2 bedroom apt, utilities, and a couple credit cards.
I'm working 2 jobs, trying to help a game, trying to find a new apartment to live in, and it's just too much. The chronic pain has been better, but there are still days when I feel like I've been hit by a truck.
And I'm mad at myself right now, because the brain weasels just told me 'people will laugh at you, because you're not really doing that much'. Now I want to go cry again.
Sorry. Needed to get it out somewhere.

Something people don't realize: 2 part time jobs = more than one full time job -regardless of the hours involved-. I don't know your particular case, but a lot more goes into working 2 jobs than just being there. There's travel, there's shifting mental gears, there's sometimes changing outfits which means more laundry. It can be an awful lot!

@ortallus It's one full time, and one part time. Thankfully, both of them are WFH because I wouldn't be able to do it, otherwise I would have imploded long ago.

Oof. That's still nuts. I'm so tired of arguments against minimum wage hikes.

McDonald's claimed in federal filings that their CEO made 10.8M in total compensation in 2020, which is only $5,192.31 an hour. </sarcasm>

Heading into the office in person for the first time since COVID stuff began, today. Whooo anxiety.

I think as a society our collective returns to the office will be a bag full of mixed feelings.
I won't lie, I'm not looking forward to the commute. What a waste of time.
-
I am going to need a orange anxiety vest that says: "Semi-Feral since March 2020. Please approach with caution" when I go back into the office.
Or wear eye-searingly bright colors.

My dogs are already experiencing separation anxiety even when I go out to grocery shop. A year ago they were human-less for 8 hours in a row most days in the week and it didn't seem like a big deal.
I suspect my slippers will pay the price for this eventually.
-
If we go remote for the last three days of school I swear my zooms will be full of games and fuck work because... fuck work.

This is hardly news, but if you're getting Moderna 2, just make sure you're okay to be incapacitated for awhile. I kinda ignored that, and now I'm sitting here with a fever and chills and baring my fangs at god.

I had to take two days off work this week for just that. Fortunately my company is just straight up giving people free PTO for vaccinations and vaccination recovery and my boss is really supportive.
But yeah. No joke. I actually didn't have fever or chills, I'm sure others have had it worse, but everything ached and hurt to do, and I slept until 12-1 two days in a row.

My wife's company is doing the bonus PTO as well. Everyone on their 2nd dose gets the day of and the day after automatically, whether they're sick or not, and they get more if needed.

My company had time off for Covid, etc. I got time off to go get the vaccine, but was told they stopped giving time off for people feeling sick because people were abusing. So I did mine on Friday, in hopes of not missing work.
