Roster Characters & WoD?

And yet, now both The Network and HorrorMU* 2.0 are doing pretty well with exactly that format, with a few revisions.
I honestly loved the idea. I think it is from my time on stage.
It's nice to claim ownership of a character, but I'm happy owning a portrayal of the same.

@pyrephox I really liked your seasonal approach. I had thought of doing something similar only in the Whodunnit genre. Each season would be a different novel in the series. I wasn't a fan of your archetype idea, since I felt people should be able to change what type of character they were playing, but I liked the overall idea.
Oh, nothing about that is mine! I claim NO credit for it. I believe @Botulism came up with the idea for HorrorMU* and people have refined it from there.
But I do think it's a good idea, and has a lot of potential for games that don't HAVE to try and hang together for years on end, at least not in the same form.

@ganymede I wasn't actually asking those questions here.

No, really, I didn't. My senility is catching up with me.

Yeah, so you've said. Just now.
Are you here alone? Do you need me to call someone to come get you?

There's a million 'yo momma' jokes to toss in here, but I haven't the will.

She's a grouchy old Slavic woman. She'd eat you alive and insist you haven't been eating properly.

I think an important distinction needs to be made about The Network, though:
There is character continuity there, in that the actor-Character is continuous and exists between-and-even-during seasons. They don't just disappear when the season is up, and up until recently, you could even revisit old seasons and parts in the Rerun Room.
You just occasionally get to put them in the shoes of a little side-bit for a season under a different theme, but using mostly their same stats and such.

I don't think it matters.
I still think that a roster system would be helpful. If I ever develop a World of Darkness game, I will probably consider implementing one. The game may not last long, but we'll see.
Without trying it with genuine effort, we'll never know.

@ganymede I wouldn't mind seeing a roster system for a WoD game. I wouldn't mind seeing it as an option (not the focus but option) on more games in general. I think it is a wonderful option for those intimidated by CG/don't like CG/want to test the waters on a game. Yeah, it has the relationship issues and the changing interpretations of how a character should be portrayed but they are characters 'done right' for the game they are building. I don't like the 'done right' but it is kinda how I would describe a roster.

I say, tell players, if you like to chargen and are bored af, make a roster character. If nobody does, don't worry about it. If someone does, you approve them onto the roster if approvable. If someone takes the character but doesn't RP them more than n-amount before dropping them, they go back on the roster. If they get played enough for it to matter, the character is gone same as 'original' characters and it's handled the same way. You also limit the number of times a character can change hands even if it's only one scene per player.
