Desc Me LA?

  • Tutorialist

    I reeeeaaaally need someone to Desc LA for me D: (As in Los Angeles.) Anyone? Please?? :D Pretty please?

  • I think you could get away with @descing various neighbourhoods with Google Maps street-view images if you really don't want to write the descs yourself.

  • @desc here=Mummies. Everywhere. For days.

  • Ew. Mummy. Ew.

  • Pitcrew

    How many locations do you need descs for and what are you using as a basis?

  • Given traffic in LA, you should choose a neighborhood. It takes hours to get across the city.And nobody's walking in LA.

  • Pitcrew

    @desc Los Angeles=You are probably sitting in your car on the 110, wondering if it would be faster to take the 105 over to the 710, but then the traffic comes on and you realize that it's just as bad on the 710 right now. So then you start wondering how much the ticket is if you get in the FastTrak lane without a pass, and you see a cop go by in that lane, so you decide not to. KROQ keeps playing Nickelback songs, 98.7 keeps playing commercials, but - hey - at least the Dodgers are winning!%r%rOh, but getting in and out of Dodger Stadium suuuuuuuucks, and tickets are like $90 for good seats, so just hope you can get home in time to catch from the 5th inning on. #VoteForJT

    I've started writing informative descs based off of Wikipedia, google maps, and google research.

  • @Cobaltasaurus Not sure if it's come up and been dismissed as an idea, but the tendency for WoD games to be crowded with high resources folks may make Beverly Hills a useful addition. People will likely ask for/about it.

  • Apropos of looking at your wiki, but holy crap, remove the white block around the TOCs. It's eye-searing against your background with that peach text.

    #toc, .toc, .mw-warning, .toccolours {
    border: 1px solid #aaa;
    background-color: transparent;
    padding: 5px;
    font-size: 95%;
    }

    That should do it.

    ETA: I think I may have some Los Angeles-related materials saved on my computer for assistance, when I was thinking about setting a game in LA following up VTM Bloodlines. If I can find it I'll shoot them your way.

  • Pitcrew

    @Cobaltasaurus -- Ohhh, so you're mostly looking for neighborhood descs and not, like, the full grid?

  • @Aria @Cobaltasaurus generally does smaller grids

  • Coder

    transparent

    Done.

  • Pitcrew

    @Cobaltasaurus Well, then, I'd be happy to help. Just poke me and let me know what you need and if there's any specific guidelines -- uses for rooms, who might control them, etc. that I should bear in mind when writing. And eh, if you're not a fan, well... just don't use them.

  • May I recommend the system they use at CoMUX, ANSI highlighted locales with dark exits leading to them, representing landmarks in each room? It would simplify your grid, and make it a lot more cozy.

  • Tutorialist

    @Aria : If you log in (angels.mechanipus.com 8000), go to construction zone, and then go to dt, it'll spit you out at the library. From there four rooms have been desc'd. It would /probably/ be best if the grids were uniform-ish-- so informative room descs rather than descriptive ones.

    I need desc's for the following places/rooms/neighborhoods:

    Downtown Core

    • Library (Central/Los Angeles downtown Library) Done
    • Bunker Hill Done
    • Music Center Done
    • Civic Center Done
    • Pershing Square Done
    • Skid Row Done
    • Fashion District Done
    • Little Tokyo Done
    • Alameda Street Done
    • Chinatown Done
    • Staples/Convention Center Done
    • Westlake Done
    • MacArthur Park Done
    • Elysian Park Done

    Silver Lake

    • Echo Park Done
    • Silver Lake Done
    • Silver Lake Heights Done, potentially to be cut.
    • La City College Done

    Mid-Wilshire

    • Hancock Park Done
    • Mid-Wilshire Done
    • Melrose Done
    • Miracle Mile West Done
    • Miracle Mile East Done
    • La Cienega Restaurant Cut

    Hollywood

    • Barnsdale Park Done
    • Franklin Ave Done
    • Hollywood & Vine Done
    • HMP Cemetery Done
    • Sunset Blvd Done
    • Central Hollywood Done
    • La Brea Done
    • Runyon Canyon Park Done
    • Laurel Canyon and Mulholland Done

    Griffith Park

    • Los Feliz
    • Griffith Observatory
    • Hiking Trails
    • LA Zoo
    • Forest Lawn Memorial Park
    • Bronson Caves & Quarry
    • Hollywood Sign
    • Hollywood Reservoir

    Pasadena

    • Old Town Pasadena
    • Eagle Rock
    • Rose Bowl
    • CalTech/PCC
    • San Marino
    • Mount Washington
    • South Pasadena

    Whatever I can't source out people to @desc, or get desc'd based off of wikipedia and google maps will end up being cut.

    @surreality Unless someone is going ot desc Santa Monica, nothing from Santa Monica is going on. Which is where Beverly Hills was put on the game +map I'm basing the grid off of.

  • Pitcrew

    @Cobaltasaurus -- NP. I'll probably start taking a peek at this tonight and maybe a bit later this week, when I'm sitting around the boyfriend's parents' house with not much to do except 'visit'.

  • Tutorialist

    Updated the list with the three descs I managed to do tonight. But now I need to go do my exercise for the day, and shit. Thanks @Aria.

  • @Cobaltasaurus I would come help but I don't do real cities justice. Especially ones Ive never been too
