Star Wars or Starfinder?
-
Given the choice, would you rather play Star Wars (FFG) or Starfinder?
-
Nnnnnngh. Unfair shit.
While I want to play Starfinder, being able to play Star Wars FFG is my white whale, so I'm gonna say Star Wars FFG.
-
Star Wars. Easily.
We don't have enough system variety in the MU* Space as it is.
-
Lacking a Starship Troopers AND a Silverhawks option, I GUESS I would go with SW.
-
Silverhawks. Holy shit.
-
From a MU perspective, I'll warn that I don't think either system would work well in a MU format.
Starfinder is Pathfinder, so essentially DMG, stat blocks, level progression, loot tables for miles, and all of it would require either a lot of GM attention or automation.
FFG SWRPG Is designed to be collaborative between GM and players, so assumes there will always be a GM present.
-
@ghost Level based systems can work in MU format, they just require either A) Very active staff, or B) An easy path for people to run 'Adventures' so there can be character advancement outside of staff run plots.
-
Neither one really excites me but if i had to pick I would go Starfinder, mainly because I already pretty much know the system since I have played 3rd edition and Pathfinder a lot so getting up to speed on the differences would be quicker than entering what all the weird symbols mean into my head.
-
@ghost Still in the building phase, but http://musoapbox.net/topic/1989/unnamed-ffg-star-wars-game is a thing.
-
FFG's system urges you to RP your outcome, Pathfinder's is extremely rules-resolution.
Take your pick.
-
I'd like to see a Starfinder MU*.
-
Star Wars.
-
Pathfinder meh's me out, so Starfinder prob wouldn't do it for me either.
Star Wars.

@auspice You could play Stitch in Starfinder. The race exists (sorta). Its pretty baller. Also... warp travel comes with the possibility of accidentally summoning otherplanar creatures onto your ship for bending the very fabric of space and time so harshly. You could inadvertently summon a dragon onto your ship. Or a demon. Or Jabba the Hutt. Whatever.

@miss-demeanor said in Star Wars or Starfinder?:

If I wanna play Stitch in a sci-fi setting, I'll just go for Star Trek.
-
@auspice Yes but...
-
Having just read Starfinder, I must say I would definitely vote for it, just so I could play a Yshoi fighter pilot.

Having poked a bit around with Starfinder on a couple of one-offs, we've discovered that the system really is entirely what you want to make of it. Star Wars - as much as I love it - is a sweeping space opera. You can incorporate other elements, but that's what the game is built around.
Starfinder, though? We had a Firefly-type game with a bunch of loveable rogues on a rickety ship traipsing across the galaxy. We had a Star Trek themed game, where the PC's were the command crew of a larger exploration cruiser in the unknown reaches. We had, yes, a Star Wars style game where we were largely planetbound fighting against an evil regime. We had an anime style game which was largely similar to the Star Wars style game, but more in space and with more power armor.
And the wonderful thing is? It was all in the same world/continuity. -
My biggest issue with Star Finder is how it brings the flaws of D&D to space. I dislike levels and vancian magic.
D&D-sque Fantasy in SPACE would be cool. I would play the shit out of Spelljammer. Buuuuut... like, I would need it to use some other, non-D&D-based ruleset. Cause boo levels.

It's not for everyone; some people prefer the structure that comes with levels, some prefer the more open and free form advancement; some people prefer defined classes, others prefer archetypes you build towards. The issue as I see it is that there aren't that many spacefaring sci fi games to choose from, and many of the ones that do exist are locked down in existing movie or tv settings.
