Dark Crystal game?
-
I'm just waiting over here wanting to play a podling paladin while you're coding that 23,851st WOD game.
There's so many times you could choose to set your game. So pretty please, make it.
-
I agree; however, the number of people wanting to play WoD is a large known quality. Some other IP or original setting is an unknown and likely smaller quantity.
-
After having finished "Carnival Row", I'm pretty much just wanting to play a new game myself. With you 100%, Bananerz.
-
This would be fun.

While I would love to see a Dark Crystal game, I would NOT want to see it from someone whose primary interest is in making/running a WoD game (or any other game). I'd rather see someone who is interested in doing a Dark Crystal game do it. They're not even similar themes.
I find this kind of suggestion kind of jerk-ish towards those people who are putting the time and effort into making a WoD game. It's not what I want? But obviously if they're going through the immense undertaking of making a game, that's what they want to do, and being a snoot about it is just blech. Even in light humor, I think it's a lot meaner to say than people realize it is.
ETA: Leave people making WoD games (or any other genre the general 'you' is not a fan of) alone. Let them make whatever game they want. If you think there should be a different type of game than what is being offered, telling people who are making another type of game to change what they're doing...is not the way to go about it, and is unkind.

I'd argue that the number wanting this is much smaller than people think. there is, however, a large quantity of people willing to play on one.
But look at all the complaints from WoD players about other players not knowing the rules or theme or whatever. My hypothesis is there is a large group of players that frequent WoD games that really just want a blended fantasy game set in modern/near modern time with a large player base and some guidelines.
Not that this would help a Dark Crystal game. I've not seen the new series and only watched the movie for the first time the other day. It was alright, but meh.

^ Ding. Though I would personally prefer not modern, really, hence the Carnival Row comment. I prefer my escapist fantasy problems to at least have a thin veneer of not matching current-day sociopolitical problems, thx.

I'd play the heck out of a Dark Crystal MMO too.
Gelflings: Pick a clan with its starting zone, most classes/careers open.
Firelings: Restricted to one starting zone, restricted classes/careers open.
Podlings: Two starting zones with Gelflings, restricted classes/careers.
Arathim: Restricted starting zone, most classes/careers. Generally against Gelflings like PVP.
Makrak: Starting zone with Firelings or Gelfling Grottans, restricted classes/careers.Depending on the time selected, you could have NPC powers of Skeksis or Mystics, or they could be gone and you're dealing with the aftermath.
-
@Bananerz so make one! It will take you awhile to get the hang of it if you arent a code, or you might get some interested helpers. Maybe even some of those horrible WoD liking people. I am sure if you invest the time and effort that people will come play.
-
I am ... really down for this. I probably need to re-watch everything at least once more before I would feel confident helping out with (or overseeing) this.
-
I never thought I'd be in one of these threads saying this, but here I am.
I'd totally be down with this.
-
Love Dark Crystal. Love Carnival Row. I'd be down for either.

What’s Dark Crystal?
-
@Doozer Original Jim Henson movie to showcase puppets were more than muppets/comedic humor. Maybe ahead of its time. Original fantasy world. All original, no humans or elves, all original species/races/etc. Now its a series (prequel to the movie) on Netflix with an array of voice talent.
-
@Lotherio oh. I don’t remember seeing that as a kid. I’ll have to look at it now. Saw the thing on Netflix though. They look so dope.
-
@Doozer The original movie was kind of meh.
Robot Chicken did a great skit about it, though:

A really quick map of what a general layout could be without much work done that shows starting capitals for the Gelfling clans. Arathim could be to the southern wilderness. Firelings would need one too, so perhaps a no to them for now.

I've been giving this some serious thought, and I wonder about the extent to which this would be feasible without needing/feeling obligated to invent a ton of additional thematic details to facilitate RP.
