Readers Sometimes Write

  • Reader

    I'm going to try (again, since this is not the first time I've tried) to finish a group attempt at following all the exercises in Steering the Craft. This is a book on writing by Ursula Le Guin. I'd like to do an exercise each week, with constructive criticism by fellow-writers in the group for the various pieces written. If you can't afford your own copy of the book, I can type up the exercise-instructions, though I'm not going to share the full text of each chapter because.

    If this is something you'd like to join in, please drop your name here. It'll be done through GoogleDrive, or LJ, or (as a last ditch) locked forum here on MSB.

    Just to help you guys write, maybe use speech recognition software?

    You're welcome.

    @Arkandel

    My fingers are more accurate and way faster than my mouth when I'm trying to tell a story. I use my voice when I'm telling a story orally because the language isn't so much what matters--it's the inflection and tone and the intensity.

    I'm sure it'll work dfor some people, but it doesn't really work for me. I need to be able to type it out.

    I will assume you didn't watch the video rather than that your sarcasm detector is broken on a Friday, when you need it the most. :)

    I did not watch the video because fuck you and I'm at work. And still moody as fuck. Hopefully this weekend will make things better. Hopefully.

    I've started up a GoogleDoc folder for this purpose. If you're joining in, and suspect I don't have your email address, please fire it my way in PM. :)

    For them what expressed interest in the writing group, we're on week 3, exercise 2. :) Come in and join us even if you're late: you can do catch-up writing, or just jump in with whatever exercise is up to bat. We're not rulesy!

    This post posted because I was asked why I hadn't told folks we'd started. Sorrymybad! If you want to join in, please ping me for the Drive-link. The only thing I do ask is that if you're reading and/or writing, you should offer some constructive commentary as well.
