Writer's Group?
-
So I know a few folks who are into writing ... ( @EmmahSue, @Coin, @Misadventure, @Lithium). Would you guys be interested in some sort of creative writing group? Either through like google docs, or facebook groups, or we could even ask the overlords here for a group folks can join? Nothing with requirements or anything-- just someplace to chat, share, and collaborate with like minded folks?
-
I am not on that list, but I would be interested.
-
I think it's a good idea, but I don't know how active I would be. I also don't do facebook. At all.
I am incredibly private with my writings until I feel something has reached a point where I am comfortable with it. It may not be perfect, but it's the best I can do, then I am happy with it so others can read it. If I feel something can still be improved, it doesn't see the light of day. I have a hard time even giving my editor bits and pieces so they can see progress if I don't feel it's ready for a full read.
Part of this is because I tend to write in layers, there's things that don't fully make sense until they are explored/revealed later. Sometimes it's a long time later and I don't want even my editor to read something and not eventually get to where it'll be explained

You're of course welcome! The list was just the folks I knew off of the top of my head who do writing things. And you're a pretty great motivator, so it'd be awesome. :3

Yay! It would be nice to have writery people to work with again! Like @Lithium, though, I could not do Facebook, but google docs/hangouts or something would be fine. Or a forum, or e-mail, or whatever.

I've a web domain/site I do little with. If ya wanna start a forum on it or something. I would need someone more brainful than I to set it up as a subdomain.
Or someone who can step by step me on making it work. I just have a word press I occasionally write things on so it has lots of space.

Well, I tried something akin to this, as you well know, Mz. @Cobaltasaurus . I don't mind participating, but I do better with a prompt than just 'write a thing go go go'.

@EmmahSue I'm a bad friend.

I'd like to participate too. I don't mind whatever format, if it's a newfangled one then it might be a learning curve but I can deal with it. I think gdocs is easy. Not sure if something like Trello would work for this (I suspect not? Thought I've never tried it with long bits of writing--I think you can pin docs to it though?).

So: @mietze, @EmmahSue, @icanbeyourmuse, @Pyrephox, @Lithium, @Coin, @Misadventure, @Insomnia, and anyone else reading who hasn't piped in yet or who may have slipped my mind:
Do you folks have a prefence to a Google Docs folder? Or maybe a Google Hangout?? (I'd have to figure out how those work), or asking @Glitch to set up a 'writer's group' thing here? Or taking @icanbeyourmuse up on her offer to set up some sort of forum on her site?
And do any of you folks want to write toward prompts? Aside from Emma? :3
-
@Cobaltasaurus I can set up a group for you guys, just let me know if you decide to go that route.
-
@Cobaltasaurus My preference would probably be Hangout+Docs, but I can roll with any of the above options. I'm not huge on writing towards prompts, but as long as non-prompt writing could be shared as well, I'm cool with it. It'd probably be good for me to expand my horizons.
-
My preference level on this matter is 0.

I might like to see a forum group here, just for chatting about writerly stuff, sharing experiences, maybe have a thread with prompts just to write a paragraph or so. We could share inspiration, advice, resources, etc. I am not sure if there'd be enough interest and activity to warrant that, though.
Anyway, people could spin off from there into google docs, hangouts, or whatever. For me, what works is having one friend for mutual support. I tried groups IRL and that doesn't work for me. With just one person, it's much more private and focused.
...I kind of feel like a fraud just posting this and even remotely considering myself a writer. XD

write toward prompts
I'm not great at writing to prompts, honestly. I get an idea, put it into Scrivener and move it around as needed. I have no idea how I wrote in a linear fashion before, except that I had to. And I'm mostly a lurker and I was teasing.
Always willing to cheerlead and encourage though!

Could do some sort of hybrid of all the things. Like a Google doc that has the actual stories in it that way the comments are not screens of the writing and thus it would be easier to get to the input from people. A Forum that is set up to have various genres as the pages then a writers group here to keep the people up on what is going on. A lot of them seem to be pretty avid readers.
Um... That's how I solve my indecisive nature, btw. Mash everything together in a hopefully coherent method.
-
I'm more likely to use a topic here than anywhere else. I don't do much with Google these days, not since they decided that anything I put on them is not actually private. Last thing I want is for some fictional characters musings to red-flag me for something.
I don't write towards prompts either. I do write linearly, but it's basically: I think this story would be cool, start here, it'll finish when it finishes.
I rarely /rarely/ have an ending in mind when I write. I figure a story will write it's own ending when I am comfortable with where things ended.
-
Hangouts+Docs is fine.
-
Doublepost: I also love writing prompts. Like, seriously, I will write about anything if I have some direction and the motivation to finish it on time.

Okay! I've set up a google drive folder, so folks can upload / share, add, etc things. If you private message me your email I'll send you an invite to the folder.
