@de-villefort Dude, they're telling you to set up your social scenes so they HAVE a purpose. Talk with the other player about what you'd like to accomplish. Don't just go in with an order for a number three combo meal and a bad attitude. Put together scenes that make sense.

I don't think it's so much 'anti antifa sentiment' as it is 'explicitly playing our favorite colorful comic characters as a metaphor for current social movements instead of just their natural conflicts is a little on the nose'. People want to play characters and stories, not allegories; as far as I know. Plus it's awkward. 'Intergang are the Republicans'. It's like... no, they're Intergang. You can pretend ANYONE you punch is a Republican, but that doesn't make it so.

Plus I think this might be the guy who came onto a game recently and wanted to app repurpose an obscure character as a government agent whose job is to hunt down and murder members of the Irish center-left party, so, y'know.

If you want to make a 'beat up your political enemies' game, maybe don't use superhero characters for it. Just make an OC setting.

Random idea: A Lords and Ladies game of politics and backstabbing and whatnot; but set in a demon realm of monster people of all shapes, sizes, and weird hungers.

I would never make this game, but it might be neat if it existed.

I have never known any amount of armchair psychology to be useful to anyone. We're not the ones who are going to solve whatever's wrong with that guy. Best just to keep them out of our lives, imo.

@GreenFlashlight That or just not wanting to read other people's erotic logs, or have them show up on the wiki. It's a little private.

@GreenFlashlight It really is next-level pathetic. To honestly feel comforted by your own dollar-store supervillain shtick.

This is both a potentially fun topic, and a damn good way to expose yourself in uncomfortable ways, so I'm torn.

@de-villefort Loads of people love Superman. I know there'd be people who agree with you, but I think you're projecting a little bit.

@RDC On a WWII game, the anti-fascism is literal. You are literally allied forces fighting a force of fascism.

This? This is like saying... Justice League are Antifa, and The Legion of Doom are Republicans.

What does that MEAN? The characters are still the characters. They're still gonna do what the characters would do, right? Do they have to change their behavior to fit the allegory? At best, it's meaningless. At worst it's confusing. It's just this one guy pretending he gets to punch and/or kill people he disagrees with.

Just make an Anitfa game if that's what you want. Don't slap cops and robbers lables on established characters. Like someone else said, the base premise had legs on it's own. The Antifa thing just makes it awkward.

    • RE: Do people still MU*?

There's thousands of RP servers on Discord, that's where most RP's happening now. The MUs that are still around are carrying on, apparently without enough drama to bring it here; that or the board's just dried up.

@zombiegenesis It'd be so good. Would be fun to go full reboot/AU on the MK story and let people play out the cast there.

    • RE: Comic Games And Scope

@zombiegenesis Basically I think you should just make a game you want to make/play on and hope for the best, if you think it has a chance at all. If the only kinds of games that can succeed are the kinds of games that don't sound worth it to you, it's not worth the effort.

Mind you, I say that, and yet I have yet to invent the Sonic MU of my dreams. Or the Mortal Kombat one. Or the 'Pro Wrestling is Real and Crazy' one. So.

    • RE: Comic Games And Scope

@zombiegenesis I don't think it's either of those things. I think it's just that the people who've tried recently either didn't catch on, or proved inept; and that a new one would still have a chance, barring both of those problems. But people generally haven't tried, recently. As far as I know, anyway.

    • RE: Comic Games And Scope

I mean, there's an X-Men-only game that was successful last I heard. There aren't really many options for people who just want a focused universe; and I think focus is best, as characters become spread pretty thin otherwise on most games.

I think most failed games fail via either the failures (and/or drama) of the staff, or because they lost the dice roll that seems to semi-randomly decide whether or not a good sized group of people notice a new game or not, and stick around long enough to get a viable cast going.

Me, I just really want to play a fresh-start Harley Quinn, so DC or Just-Gotham is my bias.

@zombiegenesis That only makes sense if you think of Batman as just, like, a narrative tool. Presumably if someone wants to play him, they want to play and develop the character, which would not seem attractive if you were guaranteed to have to give him up immediately after putting a bunch of work in for everyone else.
