Jeez, and here I was thinking I was strange or being a derp for wanting a WoD game that /wasn't/ set in a sleepy Maine town/Castlerock/Stranger Things-esque place! Like Vegas, or heck even just New York.

What about 20th century London, go all Great Mouse Detective on shit? Or Indiana Jones-ish. Or Maybe WW1-WW2.

@surreality said in Internet Attacks? Why?:

They expect it to be non-lethal, and think that because they expect it will be non-lethal, the idea that it may end in physical injury or death isn't a consequence they even let into their heads.

The possibility that someone can be accidentally shot and killed is entirely the idea with some of these, not just the person getting tackled to the floor by a swat officer.

I hate the idea of SWAT'ing, would never do it--also hate the fact that people can weaponize gripes, reports, rumor campaigns ect on these places and it's super easy to do. Reputation really is everything. Gets worse when there's cliques involved.

Swatting is not even being done by just kids--there was this case where a /British/ guy from overseas got a man swatted and shot by police in Kansas: https://tinyurl.com/kty6wof

And it's not just kids doing this, I don't think--they did it to Calebhart42 on twitch and he's not even that popular, by Twitch standards--he's just some dude who speedruns megaman x and final fantasy. What I think this is like tombstone mentality where nothing got done about it till people started dying. And lets face it, not to say anything bad about police, but you're going to eventually run into that one cop with the itchy trigger finger, like that one in Arizona: https://tinyurl.com/y7u4bc52 (that was the guy who had 'you're fucked' written on the side of his AR-15, which cops carry in AZ because I dunno, the south.)

We basically live in an age where people can reach right out over the internet to kill you. Probably good incentive to not put your personal details online.

Having looked at their rotes and such (from what I could from the eyebleeding gold text of the book) I'd say their rotes tend to be more useful than other equivalent abilities, (okay, by a lot) but mages aren't meant to be played with 700 xp or on a mush format either. In tabletop if they survive long enough to master multiple arcana that's supposed to be a big deal. In MU*s they have no opposition or threat, most of the time, it feels like, it's like oh, I failed my roll to show off, ouch, bashing damage~

They do totes tend to take over RP on games though, I have seen that before. That's a problem with people who play mage not the material itself, though.

@ThatOneDude I was referring to MU* WoD setups with 1.0 like TR, or hell even FC now. They're already up to 300-400 XP by now, I think? That's just a problem with dinosaurs on any sort of game like that where newbies are allowed to 'catch up' because otherwise they never /can/, it's catch 22.

I haven't looked at 2.0 vampire too much but yeah I can imagine a 100 XP vampire is really strong. (Edit: Or CAN be, I should say.)

@Auspice Yeah Paradox never matters on any game I've seen mages on, that's what I meant about 'oh noes, bashing damage' any damage you ever take outside of combat on a mush never matters because you can assume it was healed before anything else happens scenewise, either by natural or a character taking care of it actively. That and it's just never substantial damage, what's 3 bashing gonna do?

    • RE: FCs on Comic MUs

Character squatting/camping: it makes a game look way more active than it really is, and robs others of RP opportunities when those people aren't removed from the characters--either because staff is not willing or refuses to, or players (like has been said earlier in the thread) find ways to cheat the system. I think the solution is while you can't really change players tendencies or behaviors you can change your policies. That said, even if you do, players will pitch fits and cause a lot of trouble if people bump them off of characters they were squatting on, as I've run into personally on a game I play on.

On the game in question a staffer wanted to free up characters that had been squatted on for literal months, like 16+ weeks. They went to the rest of staff and were basically told "It would cause too much trouble, let people request said characters if they want them and the person is idle" so they encouraged folks to request those characters. Of course the problem here is the people who get bumped off said characters /are/ going to find out about it, and then can totally proceed to start trouble for the person who's assumed the alt. Imagine being a new person on a game and getting bitched out because you took up the character that so-and-so only logged in once a month to page chat with another player on that game. Never actually scene.

So basically either staff has to make that call, but what I've been hearing so far in this thread is we can't count on staff to actually take responsibility for such. I've seen a few different wizcores just stop idlebooting/nuking people for just lack of activity so far, or need to do so, at that, it's kind of a depressing trend.

@Admiral Wait what? where the hell was this? It's hilarious, but... not.

RE: Topic. I too think we could all probably take a break from the hatorade, in general, but you know, sometimes we react badly to things. Be it from a number of reasons. I had an incident myself on a game about a month ago where I got salty after an IC fight on a MU*, the first time in like, 5 years--but there was still no excuse for said behavior, no matter what the circumstances. People are just people and sometimes the flesh is weak. Sometimes some more than others, I guess.
