Turn Off Gifs?
-
I am now in the 'turn off gifs' camp.
The gifs here are awful.
-
A general 'display images default/collapse default, click to display image' option would be even more ideal; we've had some enormous ones from time to time (and other times I just don't care enough about what's being talked about to look and scroll scroll scroll past a dozen of them in a row).
-
Posters could also take a hint and not garbage up every thread with images.
I found them obnoxious ever since the trend started. Then the gifs started slowing my browser down to a crawl, and I said fuck it, and blocked them entirely.
If you have to post images, consider that it will have more effect if it's sparsely used. These trends become annoying when they start suffocating everything else.
-
@Nightshade Or just link to their garbage! Then you can click, if you want garbage.
-
@skew Or maybe, y'know, when proposing a change regarding something that people obviously have a broad range of opinions on and preferences about, we not dub anybody not falling entirely in line with our preference as posting 'garbage' when we want people to respect our different personal preference.
Because shaming is a super classy way to get your way, right? Right! ...on some other planet than the one we live on, maybe.
Just tends to be an approach that comes in handy once in a while, particularly when making an appeal of this nature. YMMV, but I fucking doubt it.

Your mom is super classy!
(... yeah, I'm still working on it.)
-
@surreality I think it'd be nice if people just linked to images, instead of embedding them. That way, if you want to see my big image, or my reaction gif, or whatever else, you click and go.
I think that'd be a more positive message for me to have posted than the one I originally did. And that more positive message brought around by your passive aggression and sarcasm, which was super classy and not at all shaming.
-
@skew Yes, that would have been a lot better!
There was absolutely nothing passive about that aggression. It's mighty absurd and doubly offensive when someone is asking for their preference to be respected in the form of blatant disrespect.
So you can pot/kettle this one all you like for dishing what you were serving right back to you, but I'm not the one who stuck my metaphorical dick in such an easily avoided bear trap while trying to present my view as somehow superior and put down others who simply have a different opinion on a legitimately neutral preference.
-
You can just feel @skew raging over how he got his feelings hurt by a gif.

I would like to report this post.
This thread is not in the hog pit, and this is an egregious attack on all gif posters across the board.
I may be strong enough to bear the horrible pain of such attacks without letting it get to me, but not everybody who posts gifs is like me.
Some of them are good, honest, hardworking contributors to this community, and they aren't equipped to deal with this sort of negativity and personal attack.

Sometimes gifs are necessary because there are very important ideas that one wishes to communicate that are difficult to put into words.
For example...
-
I will re-iterate. If you can program in a master switch for each user to pick on or off, cool. In the meantime, don't make me have to click every damn gif and link to a new page every time.

@skew and @Nightshade and @Cobaltasaurus would take away this man's right to express his ideas.
Do you have a problem with his ideas?
-
I love GIFs. All posts should be summarized in GIF form. No more words. ONLY GIFs!

So basically it comes down to I have to block gifs for every site (since I use chrome), and there doesn't seem to be a good add on that lets you pick which sites you block it on, or... just quit MSB again.

Oh no. There are pictures on a website. You poor thing.
-
@Tempest You seriously underestimate how annoying your gifs and memes are.
You're not even good at trolling people. You just come off as an asshole.

I don't think I ever claimed to be trolling.
Most of the gifs on the forum get posted in the Hog Pit. Stay out of it if your feelings are so delicate they can't survive a few reaction gifs.
