Updates:
I've decided to go ahead and use the available arx-code, and change the system as needed (hopefully I won't break it too badly). I'm not sure how much of it I will use and how much of it I will take out. (I'll probably remove the coded combat-- I know sparring matches are popular, but I'm planning to change the stats and stuff and I'm sure that'll massive break it).
But here's a little theme thing, while I tinker on with the NPCs, important rosters, and various theme things.
There are two types of duels in Cloria. The first is a duel with swords (The Crossing of Blades) which is seen as "the commoner's duel". Typically the Seedless commoners will duel on behalf of Seeded nobles. Typically because the matter at hand is not serious enough to warrant a Duel Elemental. The Duel Elemental is used only for very serious matters. Where two Seeded with combat capable powers fight using their powers. It is very dangerous and though very rarely are thems 'to the death', these often end in the deaths of one the-- and sometimes both --parties, because the use of elemental magic upon each other is dangeorus and somewhat difficult to control.
The Crossing of Blades is typically seen as entertaining and the outcome meant to be respected, but very rarely impacts a noble's life. For example, they are typically used to obtain an apology from another noble or to get another noble to stop trying to take one's protege.
The Duel Elemental are serious, dangerous fights, and the outcomes must be respected and can severely impact a noble's life. For example, the Duel Elemental might be used between Seeded both vying for the inheritance of an aunt or uncle's title. One might challenge the other for the right be heir and the loser *must* relinquish all claims to that inheritance. The Duel Elemental may never be used for small, petty matters. It is not be used because one feels insulted or snubbed. It is only used to prevent massive conflicts between or within houses.
