@kanye-qwest I use Wet n Wild's Mega Protein mascara in 'Very Black'. When the tube is fresh and new, you have to be careful about letting it dry entirely before doing anything else, because it has a very wet formula. But once it does? JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. It's not going anywhere. Like, does not budge. Like, scrubbing with my makeup remover wipes at night is great and all, but there's a pretty solid chance I'm still going to end up with some washing off in the shower the next morning. And that's the regular formula, not the waterproof one.

Bonus? It's $1.94 at Target. If you hate it, you're out a whopping $2.

(For using it, the trick I discovered to get thick lashes is letting the first coat mostly dry, then go back over it. If you keep trying to add more while it's still in the super wet stage, it won't work. So I do top lash, bottom lash, other eye, go back, go back to other eye. Flutter them a few times if they're still feeling wet.)

There was a mascara I loved from 'long enough ago now I really should have thrown it out' (which, let's be honest, isn't long for mascara, but still) that I wish they still made. My natural hair color is light enough that my eyelashes sorta vanish if I'm wearing anything else on my eyes. It had a very slight shimmer (black, bronze, blue, or wine) without going full glitterypants in the various shades, and that stuff stuck like glue. I am still pissed that trend went POOF and I can't replace it.

That there was color to it at all was quite subtle -- if anybody else has ever tinkered with cosmetic pigments, I think they used the 'blackstar' shades for them -- but it worked super well for 'you have a totally unnatural hair color, lady, wtf is with the mouse brown eyelashes?!'

(If I had clue one how to replicate mascara at all, you can bet I'd mix up more of that stuff. I may have to track down that Wet n Wild one and see if I can mix some pigment into it and not have it turn into glopville.)

Ulta discontinued the cream eyeshadow that I wear every single day, whether on its own or as a a base for powdered shadow. And the closest dupes -- the Maybelline Color Tattoo and the Revlon Color Stay pots -- are not cruelty free.

Motherfuckers.

These -- the Ulta Color Coat Creme Eyeshadow. My default shades were either "Moonstone" or "Shimmering Topaz", which were both light enough and neutral enough that I could wear them as a sort of sheer, shimmery wash on my eyelid if I wanted an almost 'no makeup' look, could build them up to something more noticeably foiled, could pop just a bit of eyeliner over and look super polished, or wear as a primer for a look that absolutely would not budge without makeup remover.

And the higher-end ones (like Bobbi Brown and MAC) are just annoyingly expensive. ;.;

It's a shame MUG doesn't sell any considering how much she would use the MAC ones in her tutorials. (I know all MUG stuff is cruelty-free)

And I know when I went to the ELF store the girl said they were going to be expanding some of their lines this winter to compete with Fenty so....... maybe hopefully that'll be one?

flower beauty has some nice ones, and they are CF...dunno if they've discontinued the cream shadows, though.

@Auspice Yeah, the smudge pots are definitely workable. Ironically, they're what I frequently used BEFORE switching to the Ulta ones because I liked the shades better and had an easier time finding them. We somehow don't have an ELF store here despite being a city of 1.5 million people, and although they carry it in Target and CVS here, it was never, ever in the colors I wanted. Somehow, the stock at the three local Targets I can easily get to always seems to suck.

I've never tried Flower Beauty because I try not to shop at Wal-Mart if I can avoid it, but I also recently discovered they have better quality tank tops than Target does for literally half the price even when they're not on sale. (And I am in no way deluded enough to think Target's clothing suppliers are any less sweatshop-y than Wal-Mart's. It's just that there's only so many morale stances I can integrate into my life as a consumer at one time before I end up having a meltdown at how impossible it is and turning into a crazy lady living off-the-grid and weaving my own cloth from sheep I hug three times a day and feed better than myself.)

like the quality suddenly went up and the price is ridic? how/when did this happen?!

I use tanktops for layering and I was like well......... this is cheap enough to try???

And they're perfect. Like soft and just the right length and what happened. How even. They're amazing for my budget and a good length and what is this madness

A co-worker hit his head a few days back and the welt was showing really bad the other day, so I let him borrow my base to cover it up.

I've never, ever felt regret for having base in my locker at work. It's mostly for spot cover, but I feel a lot better for it.

I know this thread is for being fancy with makeup, but for most guys, even being willing to use makeup for cover is pretty fancy, and I felt like sharing.

@thenomain that is pretty fancy, and so western. In Korea and Japan, dudes use bb cream on the daily, and some use eyeliner, etc, too.

Makeup is fun, and it can very much make you feel better about yourself. Everyone should be able to experience that, if they want to.

That's what I was getting at.

It's a pretty male-gaze thing that makeup is to make women more attractive to them.

When in reality it's the user's goal to do whatever the hell they want. Feel better, feel prettier, feel creative, feel silly.

Oh my gosh, it's just like clothes and tattoos and body-modding and...!

Oh, the tricksy swatches. They do look gorgeous, though. I love this palette, even if I think I HAVE all these colors. I have to stop buying eyeshadow.

It's becoming pretty popular for brands to do that, to help figure out how it'd show on different skintones. I really appreciate it, myself. Esp. for the shimmer-y hues (which, man, show up amazingly on darker skin).

I'll also note that brand (Bad Habit Beauty) is cruelty-free. So they're p affordable and cruelty-free!

I wish they had more than just the one lip-gloss. I am TRYING to find a nice, really dark color (sorta like Sabrina wears in the new show >.>) and having a hell of a time. I have a lipstick that works (UD's Venom), but I want a gloss to pair with it. $:\$ ColourPop technically has one but they've been out of stock for......ages. I've got an email alert setup if they ever get it back in stock.

Double-post to say..... I have the same issue.

I've been using NYX's dupe of UD's Naked and I'm kind of bored of it. I'm like: I want a small palette in a similar size that I can tuck into my makeup bag (vs the two BIG palettes I have!) ... but what do I want?!

I need something with matte and shimmers..........but what?! Ugh. I know having brown hair/eyes gives me a fair range to work with but I also feel like purples and greens and shit, tho pretty, are basically risking going HEY LOOK EIGHTIES CALLED AND THEY WANT THEIR GAUDY BACK

@auspice I wear super colorful shades all the time- purple, green, blue. I mean, it's def not for everyone but I think the trick (to keep it from looking 80s/90s) is to pair those colors with coordinating neutrals. Like a warm reddish brown with green looks amazing, and an orangey brown with purple? or a nice grayish taupe.
