StargateMUSH
-
The year is 2019, life has been carrying on as much as everyone knows. Elections have been won, economies have grown and fallen. The government has conducted quiet experiments through the decades that have seen successes and have seen failures. One of these failures was conducted in 1994 when an object of unknown material called a Stargate was activated successfully and a team was sent through. After three days, no contact was received and the Stargate was unable to be reactivated. A quiet memorial was held and the project was mothballed.
Twenty years later, new information has been uncovered and the project was restarted at the urging of elements within the Government. The initial attempt to establish a connection was successful and a team was sent through once again: a gateway to the universe has been opened and Earth is stepping through.
StargateMUSH is a ‘Year One’ game where characters have been recently recruited to a secret government project. Set in the universe of the movie and television shows, the game will include elements from these sources but by no means will follow their events. Will you be an Air Force Officer leading a team, a Marine Expeditionary Soldier, a civilian scientist, or a diplomat specializing in first contact? There is a universe out there to discover full of potential and danger for humanity.

Very excited for this.
-
I'll have to learn Ares stuff finally, but I'm looking forward to it!
-
From a player's standpoint, there's not much to learn Ares wise. It mimics most MU* commands quite nicely. The biggest thing I found for people transitioning over is learning the scene system(which is totally worth it).

I do feel obligated to share my favorite SG meme of all time:
-
@ZombieGenesis I don't really expect it to be hard, I just have managed to avoid it so far and it's new and different! I haven't gone out of my way to avoid it just nothing I've wanted to play that uses it

The Wiki is lovely and functional, with an appropriately professional aesthetic. And the information contained within is excellent.
Well done!
-
The following are on Hulu:
Stargate (the 1994 film, which is where our game branches off)
Stargate SG-1
Stargate Atlantis
Stargate UniverseSo for anyone unfamiliar (or needing a refresher course!) with the setting, you can binge your heart out.

And we are officially open.
http://stargate.aresmush.com
stargate.aresmush.com 1994The wiki got some organizational cleanup today and a CG guide has been added (for anyone who checked things out over the past week!).
-
I am so sad this is opening up the same week I officially go back to school... I can't do a new game now.
-
Update: I'd done a dumb and broke guest logins which broke ... a lot of things.
It's fixed now, sorry about that.

Hey! We're nearing the end of 'Season 1' and there's been a lot of big things in the past week or so.
We could absolutely use some NERDS (aka Science characters), particularly: biologists, engineers, and physicists. If this is something that interests you, feel free to stop in and check the place out. http://stargate.aresmush.com.
There is still always room for air force and marine PCs as well as other civilian contractor types. I'm still occasionally running my 'asynchronous portal plots and we have players in the UK and Australia which means there's almost always someone around looking for RP.
To get an idea of what's been going on, I suggest looking at the 'Weekly Updates' board, where @Paradox and I post on a weekly basis (this week's is a day behind since I was sick this past week and he had RL things over the weekend) to keep people in the loop about what's going on IC and OOC.

Over the past two months...
Operations at Stargate Command have carried on in much the same way they had prior. Missions to worlds have continued with the expressed goal of exploration and establishing diplomatic relations with worlds that are encountered. To this point there has been no contact with any world that would be considered advanced, rather every world has been a snapshot into Earth’s past that has contained any sort of society. Often these worlds are inhabited by human slaves serving various Goa’uld masters.
Despite the desires of the State Department and others in the Government, no firm contact has been made with any major Goa’uld representatives. Gaining intel from the relocated Jaffa soldiers has proven vital in establishing an understanding of the Goa’uld structure along with information about other galactic politics. All of it has led to intense debates within the halls of power regarding shutting down the program or continuing, with the argument of the opened Pandora’s Box winning, the necessity of trying to find something to help even the playing field if things deteriorate.
The relocation of the Jaffa soldiers has led to a new development. A rebellion has begun among more and more of the longtime Goa’uld soldiers leading to what has been termed as the Jaffa Rebellion. To this point, Stargate Command and the Government have stayed out of active involvement, providing food and medical supplies only but no arms and certainly no military presence. The war is going poorly for the Jaffa Rebels and a delegation is coming to Earth in order to present request for assistance in their conflict. There are certainly elements both in favor and opposed to any sort of action regarding the Jaffa's request for aid.
We're launching season 2 after digging out from under RL. @Paradox wrote up some specifics to go along with the above and explain our focus points for the new season here: https://stargate.aresmush.com/forum/1/180.

I really need to get off my ass and app there.

Now's a good time to do it!

I should check it out as well!

For those who play or are considering playing: what days / time of day works best for scenes for you?
I know I can't find the perfect time to satisfy everyone, but... if I can find a general window I'm gonna schedule the first +event for season 2 next week (and a vignette leading into it should go up this weekend if all goes according to plan).
-
I guess that's my general problem, I feel I have "weird hours". I can be around for web stuff most any time. For in-person scenes my best times are Sunday nights, Mondays any time, and Tuesdays any time. Sundays during the day and Saturday may be spotty but doable.

I can do Sundays no problem.
And we're also debuting some methodology inspired by 'actions' from Arx (and also in use on Ithir) for people who can't be around during the Staff-run scenes since we have a few Euro and Aussie players.Additionally, I've had success running longer-term gate trips via portal where people are expected to pose roughly once a day.

A vignette to set the stage for season 2 has gone up: https://stargate.aresmush.com/scene/196
Additionally, our first +job action is up: https://stargate.aresmush.com/forum/10/184(The job action is something we're trialing in which we'll post a 'set' and players can put in +requests to work out their part in it. This is to help lighten the load on US while @Paradox is still super busy IRL and to give more flexibility to those in other timezones).
First +event of season 2 will be scheduled tomorrow or Thursday.
