It's more of a hogpit argument then advertising though

I entirely disagree. "This game allows players to play underage characters without any sort of 'do not TS with them' restriction" is something that should be brought up in its advertising thread.

I'd even question whether such places should be advertised here at all.

@Groth I would love to see more cyberpunk games. I think we are less than a year away from Cyberpunk slam-dunking over Shadowrun's head, and I think you're right that on a cyberpunk factor this game is attractive and eye-catching.

That is what I will say that is constructive.

I, however, am a staunch believer that all sex-focused MUs need to do everything they can to age-gate access and if they allow the simulation of pedophilia they are supporting that kink, those who partake in it, and potentially creating an online haven for pedophiles to meet, groom, or continue their behavior.

I think it would be a different case if it was simply 16 year old characters (in some countries 16 is the age barrier between consent and crime), but to put in the intro that an 85 year old can choose to wear the shell of a 12 year old is a major red flag to me.

I agree. I would say that the creator is wasting a lot of the game's potential by making it sex-focused.

What is an x-profile? Is that like their kink/fetlife type profile (which may explain why the x-profile details are gated by a login)? If so, I am less believing that the game was only made sex-focused for the purposes of beta testing. Seems more baked in.

Delete the Hog Pit. It'll be fun.

The X-Profile contains fetlife style preferences, the scenes you are offering as well as whatever 'restricted' IC information the player feels like adding.

According to the creator the game isnt a sex game for beta testing but rather it is a sex game because the creator wanted to try something completely new with the Web interface and since it would take several years to create a compete game he made it into a sex game since those do not need game mechanics.

He estimates it took him about a year to code Cyberrun as is and it would take up to 4 years to create something mechanically on par with his other game.

However I think he underestimates the amount of people who just want to play cyberpunk even if theres no rules.

What is obvious to you may not be obvious to me and vice versa.

@Groth He definitely underestimates the draw of the genre with CP2077 coming out soon.

@Admiral CP2077 might reinvigorate the genre on film and prompt Shadowrun to up their A-game.

Or put Shadowrun in a coffin. Who knows. You're right, though. CP2077 will boom and draw interest to the genre.

One of the peculiarities the game creator has is that he wants his games to be unmoderated, that nothing aside from the code should determine what can happen in the game and that means there can be no behavioral rules because they require value judgements from Staff.

While I can appreciate the sentiment I think his extreme stance hurts the community around his games since without an adult in the room to enforce basic decency things have a tendency to devolve into blatant bullying to get rid of undesirables.

That said the reason I advertised the game is that skew aside it's an interesting take on the genre and thought it would be interesting for people here to take a look at even if they dont want to play it.

I used to like Shadowrun more than CP, hands down - up until about SR3rd edition. 4th was ok, but it really went downhill after FASA went under. At this point, I'd be just as happy to see it buried.

@Killer-Klown I got my start in MUSHing on Cybersphere, so I was biased against Shadowrun from the start.

That and the whole idea of magic and fantasy in cyberpunk just irked me. So I've been CP from the get-go.

@Killer-Klown I like multiple iterations of SR. I dont want to see it buried. Instead I always wanted my Fallout/Skyrim type Shadowrun game.

Instead, Shadowrun made a PvP shooter and CDPR beat them to it by making CP2077. I'd still want to see SR grow, but I said the same thing when the Underworld movies got made and got there first before Vampire: The Masquerade did: "Swing for the bleachers."

Cyberpunk is currently well within their right to bootstomp Shadowrun right now. If they play their cards right, Cyberpunk will be the name in the same way that Kleenex is synonymous with tissue and Kool-Aid is synonymous with powdered fruit drinks (despite their being dozens of competitors, people dont ask 'do you have any tissue?', ask where the Kleenex is)

@Ghost I would too, truth be told; but I think SR is being hobbled by the business <or lack thereof> behind the scenes. It was bad before, but Catalyst labs is a shitshow in the best of circumstances; and they got it after it had already gone through the wringer from Wizkids to Fanpro to freaking Topps.

Tabletop is a kind of harsh business these days but atleast the SR computer games have been doing pretty well.

It's kind of hard not to be the more recognized name when your product is literally named the same as the entire genre 😉

That said, Shadowrun was always more slanted towards the fantasy side than the cyberpunk side IMHO. So I don't think it is or ever will be a head-to-head race because they have fundamentally different priorities.

A SR MMO would be fun, though.

@Kayube I used to play on a cyberpunk game that allowed child characters. Not in a sexual way, just... 'child characters' exist. It was -awful- in execution. They had equal stats to adult characters. Ran around being obnoxious. I played a character whose entire gimmick was murdering every child he came across... and folks considered him a good guy.

That's how terrible child characters are. A man who murdered children with a flamethrower was a hero.

I've had exactly one idea for a child character, and that was mostly npcs. Basically, Victorian theme game, bunch of kids who were actually Patchwork People <WoD Immortals> in the style of Oliver Twist street kids; except with the personality/mentality of Doctor Who Cybermen.

That said, remember Changeling: The Dreaming, where children were not just a viable character option, but one of the promoted ones?
