Isn't that about as far apart as one can live in the UK?

The confusion on my part was that the wiki was just so vague about the setting I had absolutely no idea where the game might be based. Some kind of actual nether realm? (but if so, what is it actually like?) A place on actual Earth with a lot of mystical connections? The actual city of Derby with its quarter million population trans-located into a pocket dimension?

If the information was anywhere on the wiki it did not reveal itself to a 5 minute search. Also the actual city of Derby is about the least mystical and magical place I know of which made it additionally amusing to me. Derby is really aggressively dull and honestly seems to have less going on there than most cities a third of the size though the countryside around it is lovely.

My hot take after taking a look over the site is that I don't feel like I came away knowing what I need to know to create a PC who lives in that world. That there might be a place in RL with a similar name is totally meaningless to me, because suspension of disbelief is sort of part of this whole thing?

Maybe let's stop criticizing this game someone spent time and effort making for people to play, based on essentially nothing. If it's not the theme you want, don't play there. I don't go into WoD game threads to be like "ugh I wish this was L&L instead".

Maybe you should? That's how they tend to end up anyhow.

@Auspice Not gonna lie, a Dark Ages: Vampire game would be great. But that requires oWoD.

Naw, it doesn't. I have a setting all ready to go.

Names of places are re-used in real life though as well, it's not something unheard of in the real world, and you will find that North America for example has many towns and cities named after places in Europe.

It extends even further to, so like..

You have the PROVINCE of Ontario in the Country of Canada.

You have the CITY of Ontario in the State of California.

If this kind of thing has been covered, or mentioned; please ignore me. If not, it seems kind of silly to be distraught over a place sharing a name with another place in fiction since it happens in non-fiction every single day.

Edit: That's weird, this was the last thing I read awhile back and I wrote a post and now it posted as soon as I logged on. Sorry to necro.
