Great TV

The previews for Iron Fist aren't so great.

So how about the end of Black Sails?
I thoroughly enjoyed it. All the stories seemed to come together, a mix of the unexpected and the expected, for a really satisfying conclusion.

@Coin Its the series finale, wrapping up after 4 seasons. Also sets the stage for a sequel if they want to do the whole Treasure Island.
Its hard to think I almost stopped watching the show halfway through the first season. I'm glad I didn't!

I figured, what with [that thing happening] and [that other thing happening] and also [that third thing happening] after [that thing that happened].
It had "last season" written all over it.

I think a lot of people are in the same boat there (pardon the pun). I started and stopped a few times before I realized I could pretty much watch that show on repeat for a year and still find new things to 'OMG' at. (Which is probably a good thing since it's the kind of setting I'm working on?)
It's a great show for this hobby, too. It's come to mind repeatedly during the 'antagonists' discussion, since I can't think of a better example of 'this is a land of grey and heroism from not-heroes and utter bastardry from not-just-complete-bastards, everybody's allegiances shift constantly as circumstances change' off hand. The writing was glorious in that regard.
There's only one character I can think of as being a true 'black hat' in most respects, and the character was entirely aware of it and the power it granted them, which was interesting in itself.
Just the amount of discussion and character awareness of the power of a good story, the power to tell one, and the importance of the story that is told after events are said and done, is something that I think makes it worth a watch for folks in this hobby, despite the fact that a lot of other content can definitely make it a hard watch for some, I'm sure.
(That, and anyone who has ever staffed on a MUX and dealt with a tense negotiation or mediation needs to watch at least through season 1, ep 3. If you don't completely recognize a certain scene as being entirely too familiar and laugh your ass off on some level, you are a much, much luckier staffer than most!)

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. It's probably its last season but damn this final arc is fun.

I really enjoyed 13 Reasons Why on Netflix.
-
Been binge watching The Last Kingdom on Netflix. Season 2 is enjoyable - I like how even the good guys are still flawed and very much products of their time, including superstition, lack of an education, various religious hangups, etc. And the bad guys are just plain assholes.
The series is easy to watch though. It moves fast, things happen and the plot advances. It doesn't just stick us with endless swordfights of Uhtred of Bebbanburg, the narrative sometimes progresses really fast.

So. Watchmen. Am I supposed to be cheering for the fascist police state because it's taking out white supremacists?
I'm going to assume that the point is "just because a fascist police state is taking out white supremacists doesn't meant that fascist police states are okay." But now I am just sitting here watching weird satirical liberal revenge porn.
I feel very confused.

Alan Moore is the best wizard grandpa.

Anyway, Moore actually has no hand in the HBO version (Gibbon does, tho) and has somewhat infamously been very opposed to adaptations of his work after a sort of scuffle with DC post-Watchmen. He's very adamantly on the side of his books should remain books.
He is sort of a madman.
Having recently been to a talk by Leigh Bardugo in which she discussed the upcoming Six of Crows adaptation on Netflix, this has sort of been on my mind because people, of course, were very concern about how good an adaptation it will be. (I am one of them.) Bardugo is very excited about it. She feels it'll be a good adaptation. The showrunner is a big fan of the books and someone who wants to make them very true to form. She will be trying her hand at writing at least one of the scripts. And she has a say in how things go. (Apparently she also has a cameo in an episode!)
However, ON THE OTHER HAND........ Amazon is already working on adapting her new series, The Ninth House. As in the one that was just released. As in the one that she's still working on book 2 for. As in the one that might hit a Game of Thrones sort of situation. As in the one that deals with a lot of more wiggly stuff. She's not as confident about that one and I could tell, from how she was talking about it, that while she's really excited (as any creator would be) that her work is so popular that it was optioned before the book even hit shelves to be made into a series.... she has a concern about how well it'll be treated.
So I'm very yay about Six of Crows, but I'm very hesitant about Ninth House (even tho as I read it it is a very interesting book).

I caught up with Episode 2 last night. Still gotta watch 3.
Realizing why her children are white is a big fucking oof.
-
Fucking hell HBO is just hitting it out of the park after the disaster that was GoT. Between Chernobyl and Watchmen, they're putting out some of the best television I've ever seen.
