Everyone say something nice. She is being harassed because she told somebody 'no' on a feature request, and it can get tiring. Given how much she has done for us and our community, I think we should counter the harassment with saying nice things.

      Go.

I'll start: Ares has made it a million times easier to start a game. We are seeing a lot of new, intriguing content now from some of these smaller games. It is so cool, and it wouldn't be possible without all her hard work.

        Sure, I'm in.

I have bugged her for this and that, and asked stupid questions. Not once had she not been kind and patient. We've had the idea suggestion discussion, and she has turned me down but never been less than nice.

Also I like her and appreciate anyone making it easier to be in this hobby.

Ares is a really cool fkin thing, actually progressing the hobby, and she's handled every suggestion/criticism I've ever seen with far more grace and patience than most coders, Tehom included. Which is not to say coders are obligated to be graceful and patient but it does kind of make her a saint. I think only Griatch also strikes me as that patient, so she's in good company.

Back on BSU, when Ares was but a baby of a project... Faraday and I butted heads big time. You see, a player wanted to be able to report a page convo and was struggling to do so because they were on a phone client and it didn't log.

So one of the feedback/feature requests I gave Faraday (because damn, this brand new nifty scene logging thing was SUPER COOL!) was 'Why not put in a way for people to log pages?'

Fara rejected the idea. Because why can't people just log stuff themselves?

We argued. We argued big time.

I know people who are her naysayers might think I'm some big Fara fangirl (I mean, I am) who thinks she can do no wrong (she can; everyone's fallible). We've fought. And that time we fought enough that we probably didn't talk for three days.

But the thing is? She sat back down with me and talked it over again and she realized that in the interest of providing tools to help players, prevent harassment, and support the web portal she was still developing and making richer, that page logging would be a good thing.

And this is why I tell people that she doesn't just reject everything. She might reject things then and there. So what. We all do that sometimes. Unlike many people, she will frequently revisit an idea and if she finds merit in it, implement it.

That whole encounter is why I consider her a good friend, why I will support any endeavor she has, and why I respect her decisions (even if we do still butt heads sometimes). Because I know that she does respect peoples' insight.

Saying the quiet parts out loud since 1996.

I first met Faraday from back on... my first BSG game, the name of which eludes me at the moment. She was always super nice and still is, in my book!

Faraday is a class act and a half, and she won't even take money for the work she does for this hobby even when people are trying to throw it at her.

Faraday once spent three days helping me debug a problem that ended up being a stupid server issue that had nothing at all to do with code. And when I say three days, I mean HOURS and HOURS over the course of three days. I definitely remember feeling like it consumed entire days.

She didn't know me at all beyond some passing forum conversations at the time. She's just that invested in helping people run stuff.

I can't even count the number of hours she's put in to helping me learn the ins and outs of everything Ares, starting from the existence of helpers all the way up to digging into javascript on the portal. I've never asked her a question and not gotten help - and I've asked her a LOT of questions.

I've watched the web portal on Ares go from 'hey this is kind of cool' to 'this is insanely revolutionary', mostly because she keeps listening to what people wish they could do, and making it happen. At a ridiculous pace, mind.

Faraday is a gift I'm not sure this community deserves, but I'm sure glad we've got her.

You literally changed the way I felt about MUSHing after 20 years of doing it, from top to bottom.

                    Keep doing what you're doing.

                      Faraday is flawless.

                      I hear her code's insured for $10,000.

I hear she does MU* commercials... in Japan.

One time she punched me in the face... it was awesome.

Faraday's calendar goes straight from March 31st to April 2nd. No one fools Faraday.

Faraday can pick oranges from an apple tree and make the best lemonade you've ever tasted.

Faraday can't actually code, her compiler just knows better than to segfault.

Faraday doesn't dial the wrong number, you pick up the wrong phone.

When Faraday was born she drove her mom home from the hospital.

                          He/Him

I honestly can't even tell you how many times I've been like "can you pls help me, i don't know what i did :(" and Faraday was like "yep, here is what you did and here is how you fix it." She never even was like "omg just stop touching things, you are obviously not competent." Which I deserve many times over.

And when I am somewhat less than patient with people, she's awfy good at getting me to STFU.

I don't know when Faraday started coding, but I know when I first met her, I thought she was just a fun partner to RP with. Then some years later she mentioned she was building the initial foundations of Ares, and I was like... wait, what? How did you even do that??? I was pretty mind-blown by what she was building, because it was so revolutionary for Mushing.

And it was done by someone whom I thought was just another regular player. That was a pretty awesome blindside.

4srs Ares is allowing a lot more people who want to try and run a game to try and run a game and play in a 21st-century manner, which is pretty laudable.

I cannot think of someone I respect more than @faraday when it comes to designing MUs. Ares has consistently impressed me, and I think of her contributing more to the overall hobby in the past few years than anyone.

Faraday is so good and so accomplished at what she does that when people on Arx come to me for suggestions about getting games going, I usually point them to Ares, not our code base. I cannot overstate how good of a job she's done in making the hobby more accessible.

some fucking idiot who people only like because he's good at taking credit for the work of everyone under him, just like every other fucking L&L headwiz.
