@Packrat said in Covid-19 Gallows Humor:

@Auspice I am in the UK here so indoor/outdoor cats are very much the norm with keeping them inside all of the time largely considered to be cruel, along with being lucky enough to live in quiet suburbia so there is maybe one car every ten minutes down my road.

So most of the time they are free to head out and do cat stuff in my garden or those of my immediate neighbors (they are girls and so do not roam very far). Both houses alongside mine are owned by people who like cats and feed them treats for that matter, I know the braver of my two spent portions of last summer approaching barbecues then demanding and receiving a tribute of sausages.

      That's good.
I used to let mine out more, but my family losing two cats in short order (one to a car and the other to a coyote) a handful of years ago got me firmly on the 'nope, you guys stay inside.' Mine love the balcony, but I also know one has sort of a panic if he can see the sky so balcony is their (and my!) happy medium.

Saying the quiet parts out loud since 1996.

@Wretched I take solace in the article I recently read that states an appreciation for black humor indicates a higher than average IQ.

This might not fit here exactly, but better here than in the Good TV thread.

Last year in Sweden, a TV show was launched that was like something never done before: it was a 500+ hour live feed with about 20 cameras, from an area where moose wander across a river, to move to their summer pastures.

It became a HUGE hit. People loved it. They kept their TVs on all day and could check if there were any moose (or other animals, cause there were reindeer, deer, and birds and all sorts). It streamed more than 5 million hours on the streaming site of the national TV.

This year, since people are more isolated and stay more at home, they started the streaming earlier and will do 593 hours total. They call it 'slow TV'.

They also make a highlight of the day so people can catch up.
There's also accompanying talk-shows that discuss the highlights, and facts about the animals and interviews with locals and what not.

...wait, there are people here not starting out from Pooh on any normal week?

                    Oh fucking well.

@GreenFlashlight But surely Level 4 is something to aspire to? At this point you have completely adapted to our new existence and have sufficient supplies of toilet paper that you can conspicuously consume it, demonstrating you have secured the resources to survive the new world.

Youtube sent me a link to various means of sculpting for miniature landscapes using toilet paper and various gel mediums, especially to simulate water.

                          1. I don't do miniatures/model train landscapes/etc. and thus have no idea why this was recommended to me.
                          2. I have not previously explored toilet paper related crafts, and am not hoarding it.
                          3. I think youtube is fucking with us all recommending this now to random idiots.
                          4. I think months from now, this is going to be super useful for all the people who are hoarding more toilet paper than they will ever need, and we can expect to see entire DIY toilet paper 'water' walled rooms become a trend.

                          Oh fucking well.

I had to explain the reason for the lock down to someone who wants to compare the Covid-19 predictions to the flu numbers over the past few years.

                                          I concluded with;

To say 'the flu hit us worse two years ago so we don't need to be locked down' is like saying that since you survived being shot with a bulletproof vest bullets aren't that dangerous and you didn't need to wear one in the first place.
