Are we talking Meredith Durand-- espionage, and court intrigue along with balls and debuts and debutantes?

            Meredith Durand--

I don't know this specific reference but I am always always down for court intrigue

(Tho I will note: I make people play that shit out. If this game happens and anyone ever puts in a +request that's all 'I want to roll to force X to Y' my response will be Nope. You gotta at LEAST put in the legwork.)

She writes regency romance books-- or did, she hasn't released anything in two years. But her stuff is fantastic. It's usually got a court intrigue thread running through it on top of the romance.

I think this is a cool idea and I would definitely play it. If you are going Ares, you could certainly use groups to represent the various social strata.

If I could beg and beg you to do one thing, it would be strictly to keep it to the nobility and gentry only and not include commoners as PCs.

Regarding scandal and drama, I am interested to see what you do with that. I am playing around with ways to manage that right now so I will be interested to see what you come up with.

Oh yeah, I meant to add I'd be happy to write up families/noble houses.

Sweet. If I roll forward with this (we'll see how much energy I have in me once I settle into the new job lol), I will absolutely reach out 🙂

@auspice I am liking this idea.
Though I vote, leaning a little into say a 'Blades in the Dark Style setting/Dishonored' (so 'Dark Regency', maybe with magic.

I mean I can see a Lords and Ladies game really thriving (yeah Bridgertons), but I think being able to wield say Avatar the last Airbender/Korra style powers, in a beautifully pastoral, and yet somewhat dark and corrupt world could be different.

I do vote that social status, and position be apart of it somehow.
I think maybe drawing on it as an 'alertnative' universe could be interesting., maybe a world where the Roman Empire never 'fell' a bit. So everything has this Roman-esque vibe?

But that's my random 2 cents.

It's probably best to just ignore me.

So when your family falls into scandal, you take to the Colosseum to fight some lions?

                        gladiator

I dunno though, maybe it's just me but using the phrase "Regency" seems pretty specific. It'd be like if someone pitched an Anarchy MU, the Anarchy is a pretty specific period of time.

The Regency included a nod to the Roman era, with all the neo-classical architecture/outfits/etc. They already had that idea themselves!

Those aren't bad ideas, @Songtress, but it does feel like it moves a fair ways away from what I'm looking at doing.

When people think 'period' game, they don't think 'roman fantasy with magic'
It could be a cool game! It's just not THIS game.
(I also think it'd be done best outside of Ares. Maybe using the opensource stuff from Arx with modifications? But I plan to use Ares if I do this project because I'm lazy and sticking to a more 'pure' Regency concept would work.)

Also: I do think if I go ahead with this, we'll focus on the higher classes and not bring in commoners. That doesn't mean it'll be JUST nobility. There may be some other important figures (like really wealthy business owners, military figures and their families, etc) in there too.

                              I'd be interested.

At the very least, it gives me a thin excuse to watch Blackadder the Third again.
