Overwatch, anyone?

I love Torb. He is so much fun to play.
I like to build my turret in a strategic place, upgrade it to 2, and then go off to kill people while my turret blasts them in the face from a distance. A whole lot of fun instead of just turret-sitting all the time, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as I turret-sit on top of the payloads as they move from checkpoint to checkpoint unless I am gathering scrap to make armor, but then it is right back to my turret on the payload to either fix or just enjoy the ride depending on how silly the opposing group is being.

You fools! Question.
I have an XBox One but I'm terribad at using controllers. Just not used to the damn things versus mouse+keyboard.
I'm considering grabbing Overwatch. Is it worth getting the XBox version with the hope it encourages me to use the inferior method of playing or just stick to a PC?

Does your computer have the ability to run Overwatch? If not, you have but one option to play.
Unlike Call of Duty games, Overwatch doesn't rise and fall on twitchy-headshot reactions. I'm not good at FPSs, but I had a lot of fun playing Overwatch's novice-level characters. I'm decent with a controller -- I haven't done Mouse + KB in 15 years -- but I wouldn't consider myself able to tackle the average 12-year-old in CoD.
I'd rent it, and give it a shot. See if you like it. Start off by taking Soldier 76 or Bastion if you want to pew-pew-pew, Mercy if you want to support, or Reinhardt if you want to tank.

Yeah, I have a pretty decent PC. It's just more... comfortable to play on a recliner than in a computer chair, you know? If I can do it that way adequately I probably would. It's the controller that's literally killing me as I walk against walls and take seconds to align myself.

Practice, practice, practice. Start with Fallout 4.

@Arkandel If you want to go the route of the console, you can always practice a lot against AI groups (there are easy, medium, and hard difficulty and it's you and others against an AI team) until you feel confident to go up against groups of real people. That might help you get a better feel for the controller.
I usually go up against the AI as practice for a new character I want to play so that way I am not freaking out and running around like a headless chicken trying to figure out what my abilities are/do.
I totally understand the comfy chair vs uncomfy chair, though!

I love Bastion a whole lot. I am Roz #11283 if anyone wants to be buddies.
-
@Roz Wait, this just occurred to me. Is there PC/console cross-play in Overwatch or is it exclusive to each platform?

I'm pretty sure it's not cross-platform. I could be wrong.
-
@Ganymede Then screw that noise.
-
You wouldn't want it to be. Mouse + KB peeps would have a distinct advantage.
-
I am going to be trying to hook up an XBox for Windows controller and see if that helps improve my game. I keep hitting the wrong keys and dying as a result. Will give a little critique on my opinion of it played via controller (assuming it works) versus KB+mouse.

I really wish they would add some game modes, as well as balance out the frequency of game types.
It seems like the distribution is payload >>>> A->B > control mid, with the last one being really infrequent and yet the most balanced of the modes. With the others, the map balance seems really iffy and often seems to heavily favor one side (Temple of Anubis or Gibraltar for Defense, Hollywood / Numbani / Dorrado for Attack, as examples).
That said,I figure the game has a lot of room for expansion with more gametypes, characters, etc in the future. I am really enjoying arcade right now, what with some of the ridiculous stuff it enables (perma-fly Pharah is my current love).
-
Yeah. It is kind of like doubly paying the 'devil' but I think my game will improve vastly.
-
I have decided to play this so-called "Overwatch".
My Blizzard battle tag is Arkandel#2399 . Please keep in mind I'm really bad at FPS (but your mom doesn't think so).

Sent you a friend request. And no worries about whether or not you're good. Having fun is what's important.

@Arkandel Sent you a friend request as well.

Today @Tez and I gathered a group through several random matchups that just kept doing matches with teams of all one character. All Tracer, all Pharah, all 76, all Torbjorn.
It was amazing. We lost most of them, but holy shit we laughed a ton.
