New Kushiel Game
-
Since we have set some things finally in concrete - and we watched and replied on the boards here and invite a handful of folks to come give opinions and heavily weighed the pro's and cons, debated it on Skype and all that fun stuff - I'm going to drop the forums address here for those who are interested. We are intending to be an alternative option for those who enjoy the Kushiel theme. We will be working through policies, rules, theme, you name it. There is a singular board that is only for moderators, and that is because that is where plot is being dropped to be mulled and tweaked and we'd like to keep that at least, a little hush hush in case any of you decide to play.

We are going to strive to do our best to take everyone's thoughts and opinions into account. I know that there have been those who are unhappy with our choices, and that is their right to be. We acknowledge that. But we hope too that you can find a home here. We are starting to move forward with the wiki, double checking and triple checking dates, information in the books and ascertaining that we are not accidentally copying information from other previous iterations both active and inactive of the theme.
We welcome you if you see an error, to let us know so that we can fix it. Or if we missed something important. Our goal from this point forward, is transparency where applicable - nope, you still don't get to see the staff plot board! - and to have us up and running as soon as possible. Help us make this a game that you would enjoy playing on. Once we have more things set in concrete, we'll be dealing with hosting, and servers, coding and all that other fun stuff. But baby steps first!

@jibberthehut Hey, thanks for putting a new game together.
My fundamental question about your MU* in particular; how do you plan to address the 'musical chairs' issue endemic to the genre where people rush the high ranks of the major Houses early on and others have at times been left unable to participate to the same extent those early players can?

@Arkandel So what we have settled on, and we're still open to constructive criticism on this, is that the higher ranks - those who are royal/line of success - are NPC held. They will be brought out for scenes as they are needed/requested.
The sovereign ducals, will also be NPC'd, residing within their respective provinces and brought to the city when needed/requested with respect to travel times/season. The lesser step ducals, will be placed as feature characters. These characters will be NPC'd until someone applies for them and has gone through an audition. Should someone decide that they don't like them, don't want to play them, up and disappears and doesn't return for an agreed upon time, the character will be placed back in the roster, to be picked up. Offing them, will be a last resort. Someone is always willing to take up a ducal character previously played, if they're incentivized enough. But those ducals, right off the bat, are not being made available. As we want to offer up the middle and lower noble ranks first and there is room to rise and fall within our setting and honestly, the chain of responsibility means that shit that's going down with a baron, should be dealt with by their comte, and so on and so forth.
That said, our quasi-solution (and we're hoping this works!) Is that while the sovereign ducals are not in town, their appointed //heirs// are, and will be available as features as well, to be the liaison between the ducals and their vassals. Because we all know, you do something wrong and next thing you know, daddy/mommy are deciding that your sibling, or your cousin or what have you is the better person for the seat down the road. This improves on the stability issue, would provide enough incentive to get involved as well, if there's the potential to rise, as well as fall.

I agree with that. It's a good take. Your challenge will be to make sure there are enough carrots for people to chase, but it might work.

@Arkandel That will be the crux of it. Those who are taking up the mantle of staff, are also required to spend one night/day a week, devoted to NPCing. Ideally, they would do more, but at a minimum, they are to make themselves available for that one day a week to fulfill player requests, or to run one off scenes that are part of minor and major plot. Or even just a flavour-filled one off scene. Because sometimes you just want bandits on the road and make yourself look really good in front of the ladies clutching their pearls!

Congratulations on running with this. Looking forward to seeing it open!
