I'd check with Cytherea, from Exalted MU.

That is a pretty good call, Exalted MU* seems to be dead, but the code is solid and Cytherea seems super chill.

They also coded MCM's reboot and some other stuff I forget off the top of my head. My biggest issue is that it's mostly penn, so I must + for channels, and cannot addcom my own aliases for things.

I don't know names of people at places I don't play. I just know Cyth was involved at some point with something there.

@Jennkryst Is Exalted MU is Penn is it not? Do you know if Cyth does Python?

It is currently in Penn, because Cyth has not finished the Evennia re-code from scratch. I THINK.

So I had to take a few days away from the game due to family issues. I noticed a few people paged me there while I was AFK or logged out.

Please try and reach back out to me on the game or email me Bremen@deepshadowsmush.com or dsadmin@deepshadowsmush.com.

                  Thanks!

I have never wished so hard that I knew a coding language. I really hope that this game gets up and running. I want to MU* SR so bad, but I don't want to do SR 3rd edition, which is all I've seen out there. I prefer the anniversary and 5th editions. Maybe not setting wise, but ruleset wise, at least.

@ShelBeast This is what really got me interested in starting Deep Shadows.

Just a question to put out there. For those who are Shadowrun 5e lovers and Python programmers what would it take, besides a pay check at this point, for me to enlist your help on this project?

@Tirit You'd probably have to let me house rule the 5e Matrix Rules.

UPDATE: I've pulled the Evennia docs and am brushing back up on 5th edition. I have about a month and a half of low-commitment RL before Black Hat / Def Con at the end of July, so I'll see about churning out some usable Shadowrun MU* code. No promises.

                                  @Reason

At this time we have a partially built chargen but haven't gotten around to completing it due in part by the fact that we're looking at how we're wanting to implement things like armor and cyber/bio. We had a brief discussion about it a few weeks ago, but never circled back around to it / followed up with it.

@tirit should be back around tomorrow or so to interact with you / us.

@Reason I have a git on gitlab.com. I can get you access to see what we've work on currently. You can pull it and play with it all you want and push it back. I've got some of the Character Creation (basic rules) coded. It's probably nothing done as well as an litigate programmer can do. Hit me up on the game, I'm 'Bremen' there.

I'm not a huge fan of House Rules in general, but not completely opposed to it either. Depending on what the house rule is. I try and keep house rules used where there is missing or weak information. I don't believe house rules (in general) ever really 'balance' a game, so I try not to put them in for that cause. When we get to the Matrix part of the code we can always discuss it.

I've got a post on March 25th that has an outline of where we're at in various parts of the code.

It's been a bit since I played 5th, and I never did play a decker in this edition, but from what I remember, the appeal/point of 5th over 4th was that the rules for magic and matrix were all using the same standard formula as the base game set rules. Is this correct? And if so, why would the Matrix need to be house ruled?

For the sake of clarity, since text does not convey intonation, this is not a pointed question or criticism. Actual curiosity.

@ShelBeast Yep, totally fair question -- and actually, the unification of Magic + Matrix w/ the rest of the game system was welcomed. The issue I have w/ 5th edition Matrix rules is the Flat Topology of hosts that doesn't allow for more realistic opportunities for lateral movement through a compromised environment by a Decker. This makes compromising a system a more binary (no pun intended!) exercise of skill checks designed to speed up gameplay than a realistic topology designed to protect corporate data.

                                        And this cuts both ways.

That said, I do have to acknowledge that modern networks have flattened to a degree. For an interesting read Google, for instance, has released all their white papers on their implementation of a Zero Trust network, though despite anchoring trust to the identity layer (similar to Shadowrun), it's more realistically implemented in gradients based on key dimensions of trust vs. system assurance requirements.

The rules for magic and such aren't the only thing.

4th had nowhere to go. You could create a character that had maxxed out their possibility in their chosen field. You were so good, the only way to advance the character was to become /that/ good in other areas as well.

5th is much more reasonable. Starting characters can be awesomely good but not to the point they have nowhere to go.

The only thing 5th did that is stupid, is the nanite ai brain hack arch.

                                          Hate that storyline. So stupid.

Okay. Given that your Chargen is incomplete, I think I'll see about writing one from scratch. Maybe this will turn into a generic Evennia Shadowrun CG kit, similar to how SR: Detroit/Seattle/Germany all shared CG.

Having functional +sheet, +dice, and Chargen code is probably the single largest barrier to getting a MU* off the ground.
