My only question is why people like that are indulged for as long as they are, entertainment value seems low.

We're not here to be everyone's mommy and daddy; if people want to be awful to each other in the Hog Pit, that's their business. Anyone, at any time, can just mark those threads read and never bother with actually reading them (I do this regularly). But he took it into private conversations and continued the abuse despite being told to go away.
This is not a hard and fast rule. Every situation is going to be different.

I don't like trolls, but I could tolerate the asshole up until the point where he went into the personally abusive territory. At which point, y'know, chuck 'em out.

For me, the last straw with the jerkoff was his posting the meme about autism. I tend to take that kind of shit personally because my oldest son is autistic and I fail to find anything humorous where that goes. Wanted to tell him to go DIAF for that but by the time I posted that he had already been banned.

It's probably only going to get worse, now that he was banned, he has something to crusade against on 4chan and that'll only draw more trolls here.

That said, there is always the outside chance that the reason he was here in the first place is because he was considered crazy over there in his native habitat, but that might be my naive optimism talking.
